A personal connection

And a small Miami connection…I spent 10 years of my teaching career in a 2 room temporary unit. I was a 6th grade teacher, the guy on the other side was a 5th grade teacher. We became good friends and usually he comes to Oxford with his son for a basketball game or a football game. His son, Ethan New, became a really good athlete and has started for Sidney in football, basketball, and baseball. He just set 3 new school single season records in football Friday night. He broke 2 records held by Steve Williams who graduated from Sidney in 1968.

Williams became the starting QB at Miami, I remember playing basketball with him at old Withrow Court. The new record is 2575 yards of total offense so far this year. Ethan also broke Williams record of 1732 passing yards in a season, both records set in 1968.

The other record he set Friday was most TD’s accounted for in a season with 35 ( passing or running). The old record was set in 2017 by Isaiah Bowser. You might remember him. He played 2 years at NW, then transferred to Miami, but then got what he considered to be a better offer and transferred again that same off season to UCF, where he starred for two years.

His Dad also said they were planning on coming to the Kent game unless football or basketball practices prevent it.
