$8 million

Agree but wouldn’t limit this expectation to Miami…this yearly and continual “rent a player” modus operandi is just not sustainable for the many (if not the majority) of schools playing FBS football, especially the G conference teams.

absolutely correct. Lots of programs are in the same boat.

In the short term, sure. Two things though, the “powerhouse” programs in FCS (see NDSU and JMU) all want to move up to FBS. The other side, if you move down to FCS, you will lose the caliber of player Miami gets now and depending on staff and commitment, Miami could easily fall to mediocrity in FCS just as well..

If we did drop down so we could concentrate on hoops and hockey, I still think we’d be a contender at the FCS level, partly due to our facilities (which would be pretty darned good for that level).

Add in the reality that many good FCS players are not really expecting to play in the NFL, and therefore are more apt to value academics and overall college experience. I would contend Miami would deliver on both.

What basketball conference does Miami go to if FB drops to FCS?

A very good question.

P.S. To be clear, I am not advocating for a drop to FCS, just that if it were necessary, I think we could still be very competitive (or hopefully dominant) in it.

If we don’t get attendance up, we’ll never be top tier G6 team.

Daniel, you seem to have some insights here. Do you know and feel comfortable disclosing how many donors are responsible for $500,000 or more contributions?

Admittedly, I’m tired of hearing about how much money we’ve spent on the football team and why that should translate into more wins. In our situation, we’re making riskier investments because we’re paying players that haven’t done anything meaningful at the FBS level except maybe see some spot action. What we’re doing is way different than what the power programs can do since they can pick and choose who they can get and invest accordingly. For as many McCombs, we’re going to see more misses so the $ isn’t automatically going to translate into better performance.

A fact that is not being discussed very much on here is that Chuck Martin’s future with the program will not be decided by this board, David Sayler or President Crawford.

Due to the world we are now in the donors that have funded our NIL budget will.

If they keep writing the checks with CM in charge he will stay.

If they want him to go, they will also have to write the check.

They are in control no matter how you look at it.

I don’t know much about this, but what I can figure out is that in a world where the average P4 team spends $20m an $8m budget won’t get you much depth — like say a third-string quarterback. Miami is spending more money than ever and still falling further behind the OOC teams y’all measure it against. It really does feel like pissin’ up a rope.

Yes but the UC and BG losses were awful. NO Excuse for either.

DG is correct. The spending gap between G6 and P4 is too huge for a Miami to overcome. Nor do I think we should never try to get to that level. But we CAN become a perennial G6 top 10 team, which means we should beat a lower level P4 team with some regularity in addition to dominating a G6 conference. That would be a good position to occupy with all of our sports.

Miami needs to figure out how to,FINISH.
