Well, there’s some good news then.
Yes but it’s the built in excuse to shove down G6 schools - “they didn’t play anybody” as a 4 loss SEC team gets in instead.
We have enough lawyers in here; how is this even remotely legal?
How is it illegal? The G6 commissioners all signed up to let the b10 and sec make the playoff rules.
Eh….fair point
And that was the mistake…
A mistake or the calculation that taking what was offered brings in more revenue than breaking off and having a G6 playoff?
Personally, I favor a G6 playoff. There was a strong argument for it before NIL/portal, and I feel it’s unavoidable afterwards.
And I’ve brought it up before. The G6 had three playoff games to prove their worth the last two years, and unfortunately they completely failed to make their case on the field and–perhaps even more importantly–in the TV ratings.
How they performed in the playoffs is questionable, especially when you look at other games those years.
Tennessee got rocked by OSU in 2024… Oregon shut out Texas Tech in the second round, while IU killed Bama in 2025. Also in 2024, Penn State whooped SMU and Boise, then losing a nail biter to ND. Not sure any one of those are atrocious losses that prove G6 doesn’t belong.
If they are going to go to a 24 team playoff that almost assuredly will only have 1 G6 slot, and the powers are eliminating conference titles games, I’d be in favor of G6 following suit and forming some sort of agreement for the top 2 G6 teams by the playoff selection ranking play that weekend instead for the G6 spot.
That would at least give 2 G6 teams a chance to earn it on the field, especially since most years the debate between the AAC, MWC, and Pac champs is going to be splitting hairs.
