And look at the other teams we’re competing against. Couple that with his gf being at Miami, and I’d gander MU has the advantage. We’ll see, I guess.
Elmer to Wisconsin.
The fact that two of our players ended up in the best hoops conference says a lot about how we recruit and develop.
How was Elmer able to land at Wisky, but Brant ended up at Penn St.? Perhaps location was a bigger factor than I thought?
Geography plays a part too
I would think Elmers game would translate to the Big 10 better. Brant had a slighter build
Yeah Elmer is a two way a player. What the NBA folks call a three and D guy. He is also more equipped athletically to compete at that level. Not a slight in Brant, but I think the quality of programs they ended up at is pretty telling.
I’m just relieved he didn’t end up at UC.
I wonder what he got dollars wise.
If Greg Gard builds a similar roster to what he had last year (obviously losing one of the best point guards in the country might require some adjustment), I think Eian will thrive in that offense. In addition to the money, this appears to actually be a good fit.
Should definitely get good minutes there, and I’m glad he didn’t land at a MAC rival. Could definitely be a 3 schools in 3 years guy if he continues his trajectory. He was really showing potential by the end of the season.
I agree he could be a 3 school guy. I just dont get it. I figured he would play a lot with Suder gone and Ipsaro coming back into form. He was a key asset in Feb and March
Back to back Miami basketball related guys to the Carolinas!
Coastal have that much more money than us? Or maybe he’s more of a beach guy? Perhaps we’ll see him in a MAC/SBC challenge game.
I’m thinking he wanted to go somewhere where he has a chance to start.
He was never going to start here, and his minutes could really get squeezed as Ipsaro rounded into form. This move makes complete sense to me (I have 0 idea what CCUs rotation looks like)
Ah, yeah. That makes sense.
And that is the key question. Does he come in to start, or is he a piece of the rotation like he would have been at Miami. If he is not starting, then…
Coastal Carolina had 4 guards enter the portal.
I’d be shocked if Perry isn’t starting PG, and also one of the top 2-3 players on the team.
I would assume it’s a combination of all the above. Not being a guaranteed starter, probably money to some extent (I assume we prioritized Ipsaro, Kirby, and Skally, and he would’ve gotten whatever was left), and a desire to be “the guy.” Perry’s greatest asset is his confidence and I assume he believes he deserves a role befitting of his talents (by the way, he may be right, who knows.) I was worried he’d end up at a MAC school and I’m a little surprised and relieved he didn’t. Or a Horizon league school perhaps. I do think he’s making a mistake. I normally don’t say that about transfers, but I think even if he wasn’t the starter there would’ve been plenty of minutes to be had next year - depending on health - and he could’ve elevated his stock in a proven offensive system and jumped ship after his sophomore year.
Whatever the reason, I’m sorry to see him go. I’ll always remember his performance at OU in game 21, when Skally didn’t quite have it. Good luck to him.
You’ll always remember OU over WMU? The Perry iso will live in my head forever to save the season.
And I don’t know you can say he’s making a mistake. Certainly he would find minutes here and his development was amazing throughout the year last year, but we have Evan and Luke. And the NCAA is teasing a new rule allowing 5 years that may give Evan another year here with no promise either transfer.
If Perry wants to start and play PG, not sure Miami is a great fit when you have two all-MAC level PGs ahead of you on the depth chart. He can even transfer again after this year if he lights up the Sun Belt. College is basically AAU now where you just move up a team every year if you can.
I do wonder if his agent was telling him he’d end up at a Sun Belt school in the 200s in NET when he signed up to portal.
