“still struggling to create a robust NIL program”-which is why I commented above we can’t simply say “fill the class through the portal”, when that suggestion was made. Until we find that pot full of gold, we will need to continue to build through the HS ranks and fill in positions of need with portal addition. But we don’t have unlimited resources in that regard, and I would also put out there, this Finn experiment needs to be a learning lesson for the staff. We need to make sure those we spend our limited funds on are going to stay and contribute, i.e. due diligence to maximize ROI on portal dollars.
So, by definition, we’re still second, since NIU won’t be in the MAC by the time the recruits are on campus.
I suppose that is factually accurate!
do you mind summarizing who we lost and to what school? Like I said before losing a recruit to Michigan does not reflect poorly on us
I didn’t say it reflects poorly. I said there seems to be something different going on this year than in years past. Lots of misquoting me today. Oh well. Hazards of a message board!
To answer your question, who has decommitted, I will rely on the 247Scout database. If someone else has additional names or information by all means please post it. The following are listed as having committed to Miami then decommitting:
Tommy Carr
Makhi Boone
Hayden Flavin
Tommy Fraumann
Hudson Aultman
Cayden Dees
Nate Dawson
Ziiyahn Blair
Mason Holbrook
So that would be 9 decommits. These all occurred between 5/21/25-11/16/25, with all but Dawson occurring starting 9/14/25.
Michigan
West Virginia
Northwestern
Michigan
Michigan st.
No new commitment
Toledo
Toledo
No new commitment
(In the same order Blues listed them)
Toledo has had 5 decommits with 3 of 5 rated 87.
Looks like “Bailing on the MAC.” Great title for a song if anyone cares.
We have now dropped to 4th in the MAC as CMU has pulled ahead of us.
In 2025 we had 3 decommits. Again, I am using the same database for apples to apples comparison. In 2024 we had 4 decommits, but one, Toney Coleman, ended up coming back and signing. In 2023 we had 3 decommits.
I have been quite impressed with Central’s new head coach since his presentation at MAC Media Days. I see him quickly rebuilding the Chippewa program.
247 rankings are shit. All the good recruiting people left and are now at on3.
On3’s team ranking algorithm is easily the best. They don’t put so much weight in schools that just have large classes and focus on the perfect balance of quality + quantity.
FYI on3 has us ranked 2nd in the mac and 20th in g6.
Rankings aside, and I must emphasize I simply used them as one tool, I assume their data on decommits is accurate, correct? Thanks.
It will be interesting to see how Miami now handles QB in this recruiting cycle, which has signing day coming up. With Carr flipping to Michigan, Miami has no HS QB in the mix. Currently one would have to figure Gotkowski and Ehrlich are the top 2 QBs heading into next season, assume both stay, and hopefully they do. Can we find a high school QB this late in the process worth offering? Do we go in the portal? Assuming Gotkowski continues to perform well this year, stays healthy, and doesn’t enter the portal, he is my QB #1 for next year. I hope Ehrlich stays as well since he has tons of potential. Personally, I don’t want to bring in a portal QB to compete with Gotkowski. But we can’t go into the season with just 2 QBs. Maybe look to bring in a QB from a lower mid major or FBS school. It will be interesting to see how this plays out. If it isn’t clear, I am, and have been, clearly in camp Gotkowski. He did nothing last night to change my thoughts.
We also have Jonah Kroenung as a QB on the roster for what its worth.
If Gotkowski is the guy like he looked like, seems like both Ehrlich and him have some decisions to make given Tommy had 3 more years of eligibility. If both those guys stay, probably fine to go a year without an incoming QB. Given the state of college football and NIL, you never know when you’ll be next man up so I’m hopeful Ehrlich is happy to give it another couple years if he’s happy here.
I always want to recruit a HS QB but I don’t want to offer a guy now just to offer, unless he is a true DI prospect. Carr flipping this late in the process really throws a wrench in things unless the staff has an option in the wings they have been sitting on just in case this happened.
Just offered a 2026 QB, which I guess answers the question about replacing Carr.
