Bellisari just lead Bishop Watterson to the Div III Final Four.
Nice offer!
Steve’s kid?
Greg’s kid.
That was my first thought, too. Son of a Buckeye named Bellisari, just not that one.
Offers from Navy and some FCS/DII schools (On3 shows OSU and Mizzou interest but maybe as a PWO if I had to guess). Seems to be a solid kid, but probably not the kind of recruit who’d best out Gotkowski (or a transfer if Chuck really wants to do that again) as a true freshman.
Well, he’s 6-3 so may not escape the attention of p4 programs.
Very much like this offer!
The real deal. Watterson, a D3 school, could beat any D1 school in the state. Largely behind Bellisari cousins.
Yeah, I don’t agree.
What I like about the offer is
-
he didn’t play QB until the last two years. He had started as a safety. He could have a lot of upside as he gets experience. Big Ben comparison?
-
because of his prior experience as a safety, if he does get buried on the depth chart he may be able to see the field on defense.
- It meant the staff had a plan in place if Carr flipped which they clearly thought was a strong possibility to move this relatively quickly to another HS kid who at least on paper has some ability and chance to perform at the mid major level. What I haven’t seen is that same “plan in place” for the OL and DL in particular we have lost in this class. If we didn’t need those bodies we wouldn’t have recruited them.
It is true that Watterson is the 5th best team in the state including all divisions per the Drew Pastuer rankings. Right between St Edwards and Olentangy Orange.
An offer is no guarantee of an acceptance. An acceptance is no guarantee of a signing/ commitment. A signing/ commitment is no guarantee of an enrollment. An enrollment is no guarantee of any permanence. Even permanence tends to be loosely interpreted.
It’s all bat-shit crazy.
I could be wrong, I’m not well tuned into recruiting by any means. But also we’ve seen how loyal Chuck is with QBs, even if Bellisari comes to Miami he’ll presumably have to jump over Gotkowski on the depth chart unless he’s a can’t-miss talent. Gabbert by contrast competed with no experienced QBs on the roster back in 2019.
With an expected red shirt year, any QB who commits this year would be two years behind Gotkowksi. That assumes he would be here until his eligibility ends.
I would suggest that loyalty is not what colors his thinking on QB’s or any other position. It is experience.
Chuck says it often that you never know what you have until the lights go on. Practice reps can only tell you so much. Chuck is not one to gamble with someone with no experience unless he is forced to.
Well aware of all of that. We can only offer and try to convince recruits to accept and honor the verbal. Probably nothing I follow closer than recruiting. It’s why I pay for subscriptions to recruiting sites
I was thinking the same thing.
Bellisari tweeted a Marshall offer this evening.
