Must win today for UC. Let’s hope they win a few and stay away from Steele. A couple wins for UC will also send their fans into full meltdown bc they can’t stand Miller lol
Gotta figure their main target would be Jerrod Calhoun rather than Steele (though it would be malpractice not to call Steele’s agent).
IDK..maybe Steele wants to coach at a good school not in a ghetto?
It’d be wonderful if Steele stayed at Miami until his three children all graduated from where their father is coaching basketball.
Or is there something to be said about being a big fish in a small sea as opposed to a small fish in a big sea. Big 12 currently has 5 teams ranked in the top 16. Not sure UC will be a top tier team in that conference any time soon no matter who is the coach
Big 12 will exist until the Big Infinity and SEC renegotiate their TV contracts and then UC will be looking for membership in CUSA again.
I think we are getting past Miami being A big fish in a little sea. The plan is to be the biggest fish in that sea. And that makes Miami a bigger fish compared to many power conference teams.
Diverging away from the stadium topic, to me the key to our goal of a continuing renaissance in our two power sports in the absolute necessity of retaining Steele if at all possible.
How does retaining Steele help football?
its not linear but it shows that the AD and school leadership, and board were able to display a strong vision and funds to advance the program to a new level.
Builds the new brand that I believe Sayler wants to convey that we are fully commented to be the “ best of the best “ of the high majors, first in hoops (as our opportunity there is right now!) w football to follow.
You answered Grumpy for me, and quite accurately as well.
Steele’s best path to the ACC might be to just stay at Miami through the 2030 TV renewal dance and trust that Miami will bid aggressively for a slot at an upcoming ACC opening/ bid.
In the interim, Miami will have an ACC-worthy arena and a stacked roster through Steele’s deft recruiting chops plus an occasional incoming transfer to strengthen roster slots.
SMU bought their way into the ACC.
Anything that helps one sport helps the Miami athletic profile overall.
Josh Schertz got a contract extension from SLU right before their game today. Years and amounts not yet announced, so he is off the board.
