Certainly not a hard choice in terms of places to live…
Would hope it’s Groce. I find it bizarre the deal with Travis isn’t done
=>Effing burners.
All that visit Myrtle beach advertising must’ve played a role
Well Charleston is not really much like Myrtle Beach IMHO.
Agree. Charleston is nice. Myrtle Beach - you can keep that train wreck.
It’s still spring break. I don’t find it that hard to believe that after the season ended last week, Steele told the guys to enjoy spring break and then deal with everything else after that time.
yes, very very different places
agree, Jan through March had to have been a lot for everyone. Not seeing any rash decisions is a good sign IMO
I saw something else saying it was Toledo’s coach leaving and that might make sense with Toledo’s best player entering the portal today after originally not entering
Hell if I’m Chris Mack I’m not leaving there for Tampa… thought he was going to bide his time a bit more for a better job if he wanted to leave at all.
If I’m Groce, assuming the money is even slightly better and the roster money is slightly better, I’m already on the phone with a SC realtor and Mayflower! Groce is negotiating for a Rainbow Row house!
Would you be saying the same thing if Steele was leaving for Charleston? I think this is terrible for the MAC and any argument that could be made for moving from Akron to Charleston could be made for Oxford to Charleston. Now Miami is way superior to u of Akron- that argument I support
Charleston can’t be a better job than Akron. The CAA has to be worse. Charleston is lovely and Akron sucks. But this can’t be a better job
College of Charleston used to be a very good mid major job. Great city support and TS Arena looks like a step up from the JAR
Maybe he just sees the writing on the wall. Miami and Akron are going in different directions for a number of reasons
Anyone who thinks CofC isn’t a better job than Akron is insane. They have a bigger basketball program budget, pay the coach more, pay the team more in rev share, and have a better city.
If Charleston isn’t a better job than Akron, what the hell is your criteria for better job? And yes, it’s a better job than Miami too as of this moment, although we all hope the trajectory changes that.
Groce had his shot at the big time and now maybe he’s got other priorities, including quality of lifestyle. The Charleston job will definitely pay more $1 M per year, and Charleston and the surrounding islands are pretty nice places to live (if you can stand the heat!). Compare that to Akron and its winters. (and yes, I once lived near Akron and have spent some time there). There are of course very nice areas to live nearby, but maybe Groce wants a last stop destination where he might enjoy retiring.
P.S. not sure this is high on the list, but C of C also has a really nice hoops arena as well. I have been to Charleston Classic games there in the past few years. Seats 5100 and built in 2008.
