It seems like 2 things are going against Syracuse: being in the ACC as Phil said and above the board payments.

Yeah, this is the type of circle I think Steele is trying to avoid.
- Rock it at a mid-major, get hired by a (supposedly) big-time program
- Don’t make the tourney due to not being able to get your system in place
- Get canned in 4 years
- Go back to a mid-major that’s a real project

McDermott retiring at Creighton
Actually, with his Xavier stint and eventual reinvention at Miami, Steele has already “seen that movie”. Doesn’t mean he still isn’t itching to prove his mettle at a power conference program.
McDermott has had a few good teams out there. Then again, looking at what Nebraska has done the past couple seasons, he may see the writing on the wall.
Calhoun to UC
You never know how it’ll work out, but seems like a great sign for UC basketball. One of the hottest coaches in the country and obviously their #1 choice for the job.

Looks like Randy Bennett is heading to ASU and his Associate HC is getting promoted at St Mary’s
Randy Bennett had been at St. Mary’s since 2001. The Gonzaga move to the PAC-12 has to be influencing this one. Or the amount of money ASU is gonna throw at him

Well damn… I’ll miss Randy at SMC, he built a hell of a program there that had not done much under Bollwinkel. Good luck to him at ASU, and I absolutely think Mickey can build a winner. Just wild to even read the words “Randy Bennett leaves”, considering I had been going to games while I was living there in Moraga back in 01-06 when I left to go to school at Miami. Wow.

Steele said in interviews that when he interviewed with us that he needed the freedom to do things his way. That probably hasn’t changed, if he goes somewhere it’s because they’ve given him carte blanche and enough of a financial commitment to make it happen.
