Fun fact, there have been a whopping 3 NCAA regionals hosted in northern states since the 2015 tourney (Indiana State 2023, Notre Dame 2021, Minnesota 2018) out of 160 in that span.

Oregon and Oregon State both are hosting and I would call them Northern states on some ways

The Regional sites were fairly predictable based on national ranking.

Knoxville Regional - Tennessee (13), West Virginia, Nebraska, and Miami U.
Other regionals of interest.
Hattiesburg Regional - Southern Miss (15), Alabama, Cincinnati, and Holy Cross
Baton Rouge Regional - LSU (5), Florida, Miami of Florida, and Wright State
8 SEC teams hosting. 3 Ohio teams ( not OSU) is quite an accomplishment.

They are projecting X as one of the last four teams out, which means either 3 or all 4 of the Joe Nuxhall Classic teams made it to the NCAA’s. When you can schedule teams that are both close and quality, that’s win-win. I wish we had this type of tourney dialed in for hoops. Maybe soon, we will…

The selection committee chair’s school (SE Louisiana) was one of the first four teams out.
When was the last time that happened? That being said, you don’t usually see a mid-major AD leading a selection committee.
