I think in a few years when either the Chinese or Qataris own the Big 10 and SEC, the rest of college sports can normalize
I donât think itâs likely either, but the idea that a coach on the verge on three straight seasons with conference titles berths isnât impossible. Especially in a busy carousel where some lower power conference programs may get poached.
Apparently the private equity investment in the B1G is supposed to be from UC Investments, which manages the endowments and pension plans for the University of California system.
This one is may be from UC, but in a few short years when that isnât enough, itâll be either Chinese or Middle East investors grabbing ownership
Supposedly there was talk of the holiday bowl being moved to Saudi Arabia. Definitely can see more foreign involvement
The MBS Bonesaw Bowl sponsored by King Abdullah Economic CityâŚ
Free fireworks show from Bibi and Co.
Though it would be really funny if eventually retired janitors from Merced own Ohio Stateâs patent portfolio because the B1G defaulted on the loans from the pension fund.
Art Briles is back. Just hired as the head coach for the Eastern New Mexico Univ. Greyhounds (D-II, Lone Star Conference).
In the Big 10 - UC Investments proposed deal, UC Investments has the option to sell its interest to anyone after 15 years. That could get awkward. Frankly, I support Michiganâs opposition to what amounts to a âpayday loanâ deal.
Even short of that, the California public retirement plans are aggressive and occasionally litigious investors, certainly moreso than the typical limited partner. If this goes off the rails (as I think it probably will), youâll have the pension fund from one state university system threatening other state universities to recover their money. Youâll also have a shitshow set of hearings in Sacramento about why Californiaâs pension fund effectively cross-subsidized overspending on athletics at out-of-state institutions.
Just wondering when these two things happen:
- LIV-Golf type entity offers Ohio State, ND, Michigan, Georgia, Texas, BAMA, etc. a 24-team conference worth boo-koo bucks PER SCHOOL that they donât have to share with Purdue, Miss State, Minnesota, Northwestern, Michigan State.
- The non-24 schools say âF*ck it. Weâre not gonna pay millions for a coach/kicker/LB who will be snatched away for a better offer, and we can never compete with the schools in the superconference. Weâre out.â
Five years from now?
I said on here 10 years ago that the Mid-majors should have banded together and refused to schedule any power conference schools and let them get a taste of some losing records and schedules without 7-8 home games every year.
He was being mentioned for several jobs. Wouldnât be surprised if Jon Summerall from
Tulane also leaves the AAC
Morris, another potentially contending coach whoâs probably checked out with the CFP on the line.
Summerville to KY?![]()
Last I saw the deal lets him coach the playoff if they make it.
