Report on X is that Brooke Blumenfeld from NIU has committed out of the transfer portal to Miami.
6’0" forward R-So who averaged 9.1ppg on 21 minutes per game for NIU this past year.
Two years of eligibility remaining.
She split time in the post against us. Good offensive post moves was the best part of her game.
NIU’s coach was let go after 10 solid but mostly average seasons. She ran a far better program than the men did over the last decade. It is pretty normal for players who were recruited by a coach to transfer when she is let go.
Have we lost any to the portal in women’s
Enjulina Gonzalez, Ziul Gonzalez and Cori Lard are all in the portal.
Plus Hennessey Lu Brown.
Speaking of newcomers, we did sign two girls back in November. 6-3 Emily Van Timmerman I think sat our her Sr season and joined our team in December and has been practicing and traveling with the team ever since. In her last year of HS in Grand Rapids she averaged 11.7points, 8.7 rebounds, and 3.1 blocks. She played basketball for the same high school that our assistant Megan Belke played for. She will be a redshirt freshman next year, similar path that Brant Byers took.
The other girl is a 5-10 guard who was born in Japan. Mio Sakano played a year at IMG Academy in Florida and averaged 13.8 points, 5.4 rebounds, and 3.5 assists. Then she played for a junior college in Florida this year. I am not sure if she will come in as a freshman, a sophomore, or a junior. I think IMG is a prep school so that might not count and I think the junior college rule is still in effect accept for people who were in junior college at the same time as Pavia the New Mexico / Vanderbilt QB who sued the NCAA and won the right to not lose a year of eligibility. I think anybody who played in junior college that year and transferred up did not have to count that year, which is why I think Cori Lard and maybe Hennessey Lu Brown got a year back. So my best guess is that Mio will be classified as a sophomore but that is a guess.
We lost about 30 points per game from losing Maya Chandler and Enjulina Gonzalez so I am expecting Coach Box will be looking for wings who can put the ball on the floor and drive and score to try to replace some of that production. I would expect some more additions.
I was expecting EG to bolt given the amazing year she had and not shocked about Cori as maybe she just saw the writing on the wall or her scholly wasn’t gonna be renewed. But Ziul? Never even played a minute. Huge risk IMO as she prolly would get a lot of time here. I hope she wasn’t used as a gatekeeper to get her sister.
Edit: I just connected the dots to what yellow means and the answer is hiding within Ghostbusters. Good luck!
