2024 Recruiting

I know nothing more than what is in this tweet. Just passing it on as this is a Miami sports message board. Whether I post it here or not, this is already on Twitter. Obviously not something I will be retweeting! The one who tweeted this is the head coach of Kell High School in Marietta, GA and I assume this concerns one of his players. https://twitter.com/Coach_May82/status/1668051180830769155?s=20

Based on the twitter likes of Coach White, it seems like the original offer was for a PWO spot and there was never a scholarship offer to begin with. It seems like something that could’ve been worked out over a phone call instead of social media. I appreciate a HS coach standing up for a player, but even having scholarship offers pulled because you aren’t performing, someone else committed, or another issue came up is nothing new. I see both sides, but I do wonder if this is going to make other college coaches to be more hesitant to offer that coach’s players.

Do you think other coaches will see that and steer their players away from Miami or will it blow over fairly quickly?

Just to play devils advocate here, if Miami knew there wasn’t a spot open, and if they knew he was coming from Georgia to visit, (assuming both for the sake of this argument only) then perhaps Miami’s staff should have told him that before he made the trip. Then he could decide with full knowledge ahead of time. Again for purposes of argument only. I obviously know zero facts as well.

Bobby May has a huge following. This has legs. I read the thread. I don’t see how it’s clear this was a PWO? I may be missing something. Looks like Coach May and Parents thought it was a scholarship offer. Maybe White and Martin not on the same page? Who knows. I feel bad for the kid and family either way though.

This is how it is in 2023. And it only gets worse the higher up the ladder you go. Thanks NIL!!!

I’m not sure NIL has anything to do with this one.

I agree. Why would NIL have anything to do with a player being told we don’t have a spot for you? I don’t follow that argument.

I was commenting on the stakes (in general) being too high across the board in 2023. I may not have been clear but I’m also drunk.

Story from yesterday on Miami verbal, Khobie Martin:

Miami WR commit Brock Montgomery has flipped to UConn

Tough loss. UC and Louisville also offered.

Big (6-3) and fast (4.36 40).

“The most underrated receiver in the country clocked in at a 4.3 at the @OleMissFB camp. 15/15 in 1 on 1’s.”

Sad to see him go. And a bit of an interesting flip. UCONN is independent I believe in football after spending 6 seasons in the AAC. Not exactly a football destination. Although there are rumors UCONN could be a target for the B12. FB and BB.

Probably the lure of Jim Mora, Jr. I saw them in the Myrtle Beach Bowl last December - losing to Marshall. They brought a huge contingent to the game and their band was twice the size of Marshall’s. And New England schools aren’t really notable for having good marching bands. Lol

Mora took them from 1-11 to a bowl game in just his first season.

Perhaps, but still, I think an interesting move. I wonder if the recent reports that B12 is considering UCONN had an impact.

Lots of possibilities. He could see the deep WR room as a deterrent. Maybe someone on staff at UCONN gave him a scoop on behind the curtain at Miami? Maybe he didn’t like what happened to the 2024 WR from Georgia a few weeks ago? Definitely could be the Jim Mora recruiting style. He is very personable and connected. These things change often and for various reasons.

Someone probably came through with NIL for him to drop us for UConn when UC and L’ville were other options if he wanted to go elsewhere

Committable offers, or just offers? There is no way to tell what choices a player actually has. Most “offers” are not committable. They hold a player until they get who they want.

I personally don’t care. Get dudes who want to be here, here.
We have a better opportunity long term than so many other schools. But, it’s not for everyone.

I agree. However, opportunity is different at every school depending on position. I would rather lose a player before he gets here. That’s better for the team and the player.
