Benson might be the unsung hero of this team this year. Quietly having an outstanding season after a stint in the minors. Mark Sheldon did a nice piece on him in Reds Beat today. Hard-pressed to find a more impactful #9 hitter this year. Let’s hope he keeps it going!
5 straight wins! Now need to take care of business with the Brewers!

Votto, Stephenson, Benson all had days off today, meaning they didn’t play. Bell doing a nice job rotating his players.
Went to the ballpark today. Legitimately the first Reds game my 11 year old has ever attended where the crowd cared about the result.
Isn’t Benson on the 10 day IR list for gastritis?
Article published in the last hour says the Reds are shopping India for pitchers under control, meaning more than a half season rental. I agree with the need for starting pitching, but even with the number of good young IF the Reds have, I think moving India is a horrible idea. I know others will disagree.
Not Benson… Kevin Newman.
India under Red’s control until 2026 so you’d think that they would be patient about potentially moving him unless they got a really good starting pitching option in return.
I agree it would need to be someone pretty good, SP. The thinking of the article was with CES, McClain, Delly, Steer plus some high prospects down on the farm, that India is dispensable. I do not totally agree with this.
Here’s the article
CBC ran this terrific in-depth interview from April of this year on The National this week. Thought the Reds fans on the board might be interested.
I agree with you on India, Blues. There are a lot of intangibles that he brings to the club, including his leadership. He would actually be considered more of a veteran on this young team. It would have to be someone really good in return, say a 1 or 2 starting pitcher.
I would have to think the Reds would try to include Jose Barrero in any trade package for a pitcher. He probably doesn’t have a long term future with the Reds.
De La Cruz w an early homer vs the Brewers but so far Votto 0-2 and down to .182 BA. Love his leadership but he’s gotta start hitting or they need to give someone else a shot.
It’s a report multiple sources say is vastly overstated – falling into the category of there’s no such thing as an untouchable player
On paper trading India is probably a great move. That doesn’t always equate to the best move in real life. Based on how other players on the team feel about India, trading him at this time would be a disaster.
He’s a fan favorite =sells tickets.
I don’t know if I would go that far. Fans do love him but I don’t think he drives ticket sales. If anyone on the roster sells tickets it’s Elly. If India were traded and they managed to keep winning I don’t think there would be a falloff in attendance.
India was having a great season, hitting over .300 and second in the league in runs scored. Then they removed him from leadoff and dropped him to third in the order and he has not been the same hitter ever since. I guess he tried to hit for power instead of just getting on base.
India has recorded the best average exit velocity (89.5 mph) and hard-hit percentage (39.3%) of his career in 2023, while lowering his strikeout rate every season.
Reds hang on to win, 4-3. They really needed that one! Team still seems to be in a slump in terms of base hits…Votto finally got a hit but is batting .181.
