Based off of the expectations coming into this season, 9-5 might be considered a little bit of a letdown, but considering the offensive weapons we lost, I think our guys really put together a hell of a season. 7-1 in conference play, a second straight MACC appearance, and a blowout bowl win. Incredible job after a 1-4 start.
This is the first time since the 2003-04 seasons that we won a combined 20 games in back-to-back seasons. Congrats to this team, especially the seniors!
Agree, it was an awesome season and the blow out win versus CSU was fantastic!
CSU was a very good team this year at 7-1 in the MWC. There lone MWC loss was to Fresno by 6. They essentially were tied for #2 team in the MWC behind Boise St. and UNLV. Because of the tie breaker system, they lost out to UNLV to be in the championship. Their other losses were ranked Texas, ranked Colorado (at the time), Oregon State in OT on the road, and MIAMI.
So to quote Kendrick Lamar’s song…
“THEY NOT LIKE US,” CSU is not like us, as MIAMI WINS ARIZONA BOWL!
A trivial little “fun fact” regarding our win in the Arizona Bowl.
We are now undefeated (2-0) in playing bowls in Arizona. Our first win was in the long forgotten Salad Bowl played in Phoenix, a bowl that existed from 1947-55. We played in the game in 1951 in front of a crowd of 24,000 w our Woody Hayes coached squad, defeating a 9-1 Arizona State team, 34-21.
ASU featured All American RB Whizzer White, who we held to 106 yards rushing, his lowest output of the year. Miami finished 9-1.
