#20 Miami vs #9 Duluth

Much better PP but still a :doughnut: on the board.

Yeah I believe thibodeau has been in charge of the PP, maybe someone else should have a crack. Mauron is in charge of the PK and before this weekend they’ve been really solid so I’ll give him a break

Also I believe UMD has a really good PP.

We better pull this together in the 3rd period

Of course the 1 game I go to this season is most reminiscent of the games I went to as a student

Need a big turnaround for the third period

At least show a valiant effort to send the seniors off with

That’s a start!

Respectable 5v5. Embarrassing on special teams, both sides. Pathetic.

This was a bad series. Bad losses. Really the worst of the season except for maybe Denver in my opinion. We sucked on special teams. Like embarrassingly sucked. 5v5 we were better but we couldn’t finish. Made Ethan look like a Vezna candidate. We aren’t playing well now against good competition. It’s been a good season overall but we just aren’t competitive at the top level. The talent gap is just too big for hustle to overcome.

Well good thing we have reinforcements coming in next season

These numbers are from before this weekend, but Duluth has one of the best special teams in the nation for some context. Still disappointing though.

Miami has another talent infusion for next season…..hang in there!

That they do! Funny looking at Miami’s top lines and seeing so many ā€œFrā€ and ā€œSoā€ listed. The excellent recruiting class should help boost Miami into the top half of the conference.

We’re at least competitive, and don’t look nearly as outclassed as we’d been looking in the last while. PP woes aside, combination of further development of these younger guys and the recruiting classes we’ve got lined up… exciting times

Although this series was a bummer we really did go toe to toe with higher ranked nodak and WMU, it was neck and neck and got conference points from top 5 ranked teams. I wouldn’t say we aren’t competitive at the top level, we’re finally showing that we can compete with teams like that because we are in these games until the very end. The ENG we’ve allowed make it seem less close than it is but a year ago we wouldn’t even be in the position to pull the goalie. Now to be competitive plus win is the next step.

I will say I do not want to see UMD in the postseason, they’ve shown that this is just not a good matchup for us. Call me crazy but I’d much rather see nodak or WMU again (and their fans are saying they don’t want to see us!)

We knew that playing 6 straight games against top 10 opponents would be a daunting task and it did expose us a bit but I’d rather that happen now and have the team learn from it than in the postseason

Onto Omaha, locked in on getting at least 3 points and locking in a spot in the NCHC tournament.

I think the scoreboard watching will be favorable for us next week. ASU and CC have games at Denver and at UMD which is a tough task for them. St Cloud is idle so if we did sweep we could end up in 5th place.

There is a nightmare scenario that two, three, or four teams are tied for last…Tiebreaker rules-

Your analysis, is spot on. Mine is a function of beers and frustration. Needless to say, I was disappointed in the series. Mainly because I have expectations now and I thought we played our poorest hockey in awhile against UMD. That being said, we are so much better 5v5 and the penalty kill, to your point, is most likely a match up issue. I expect we will get back on track there immediately. We need to so we don’t go from a shot at home ice to last place. That would be disaster.
