WCPO - Channel 9 shows the correct way to call Miami on air

Props to Caleb Noe at Channel 9 for this. Damn shame the athletic department doesn’t get on these other TV stations and networks with the same thing

They have not played any one good and barley beat Buffalo twice and Akron

Did you go to Ohio with that mastery of the English language?

This is absolutely a Marshall fan. I have no way of knowing that other than it reads just like all of the old Marshall posts from back in the day.

Wow that must be some real strong barley!

Barely beat UB twice and Akron?

Wow, I didn’t realize a grain had such a good record against the MAC.

Spell check is no one’s friend.

Must be southern twang-“barley”=“barely”

You can’t have it both ways, fellas. Anyone looks up Miami online, and this is what they get…

I just don’t care for hypocrisy. Why did they choose that handle anyway? Prior to a few years ago, it was “muohio.edu” so they’re all over the place with it.

I’ve never gotten the fuss over Miami of Ohio, but maybe that’s because I didn’t grow up in Ohio. That’s what the school is called in all 49 other states (if people have even heard of the school, which even in Indiana is not assured).

If someone asks me where I went to school, I answer Miami Ohio just to short cut the necessary clarification.

The only annoying thing is when a broadcaster continues to say “of Ohio” or “Miami Ohio” every single time during a game as if a viewer was going to wake up from a coma suddenly and be confused which Miami was playing.

I don’t really care anymore. The only thing that bothers me is that ESPN has us as Miami (OH) and that other school as just Miami.

Miami of Ohio annoys me because it sounds like we are a branch campus of the other Miami. Miami Ohio and Miami (OH) don’t annoy me as much

I remember seeing these hats around campus back in the day. They werent official “the game” branded though.

I also am from out-of-state and “Miami Of Ohio” is still the most recognizable name (for athletics…and more).

Agree with you, Hoosier! Everyone called it Miami of Ohio in the 50s and 60s. I even have a Miami of Ohio button I bought at the Shriver Center bookstore in 1970. There seem to be numerous references to Miami of Ohio in the trailer for the upcoming Cradle film release.

It became an issue when former Director of Development Doug Wilson decided to make it an issue in the late 70s and early 80s. I knew Doug and his wife Sue well. Doug’s dad, former Provost Charles Wilson thought there was no need to mention Ohio at all in referencing our university. Doug made it a signature issue.

I will never understand why so many Miamians choose to make it a hill to die on. To me it’s like alumni of Ole Miss insisting everyone call them only the University of Mississippi or Missouri being offended by anyone calling their university Mizzou.

I feel much stronger indignation about those who insist on calling us Redskins a quarter of a century after the mascot and nickname changed.

Might as well TM “THE Miami”!!!

Probably because there is no Miami University in Florida. There’s no reason to say “of Ohio”

I remember these. I think a business fraternity came up with them. About time to relaunch the acroymn.
