Ummm, Western Michigan might be getting a new $300M dollar arena

Rales was just announced as part of a group bidding on the Washington Commanders, so nine-figure gifts to Miami may have to wait a bit.

LEFT HAND UP!

Does Rales have a son who is also unqualified to be a college baseball coach but we’d hire anyway just because?

Interestingly enough, Miami’s numbers are doing well as far as applications. They expect a class of between 4000-4200. Over 36,000 applicants. All 50 states and over 100 countries represented in the applicant pool. Honor’s College had its largest number of applicants ever for an anticipated 450 or so spots. Got all this information directly from Dr. Zeb Baker, head of the Honors College at Miami.

Looks like WMU is taking a High Point University approach to development. Build it and they will come. If you’re not familiar with High Point’s campus go to their site and look at the pics. The campus streets are figuratively paved with gold - all on borrowed money.

The “high point” of going there is all the new building. The “low point” will be when all those costs get passed into tuition increases.

(Flawless again! Punmaster with yet another win.)

Their theory is that they would start by turning their university into a glamorous, state-of-the-art campus to attract lots of fairly decent students - primarily from the Northeast - who couldn’t quite get into elite schools but could afford to pay full tuition. They also plan on doubling or tripling their student body size. They are using this income stream to service debt. Their long term goal is to increase their academic standing in order to attract more top notch faculty and high caliber students - and increase the availability of student financial aid. They realized they would just be another struggling small private university if they continued to operate with a mundane, unremarkable campus. It’s a gamble but it appears to be working.
