But I am not blaming this one on Coach Martin. I thought the FG was the right call. I felt like we were aggressive on offensive play calling (i much prefer him over last year).
We had chances to put the game away and screwed up. Our Fg team is generally good - it wasnt yesterday.
I was excited about what I saw yesterday and then very sad. But the first half was the best I have ever seen us play
Rwdhawks97-I want to tell you a little story about someone who wore a chinstrap and a jockstrap. A diminutive high school player who played 1979-1983. All of 5’4” 135 pounds. So Scoop Smith decades before Scoop but without all the God given talents and abilities as Scoop. But played every down, every play like it was his last. RB/DB. Loved contact. Didn’t shy from it. Took a lot of heat because of his size and also because he was the only Jewish kid on the team. And the opposing teams knew it and weren’t shy about the comments they made. Just pissed the little guy off and made him play harder. Played for the Sharon Tigers under the legendary Western PA coach Jim Wildman, in the WPIAL. Played Beaver Falls, New Castle, Farrell, Pittsburgh North Allegheny to name a few. And on 4th and 1 on the oppositions 1 yard line, you know what Coach Wildman would say to the team? “Score the fucking touchdown”. And had he called any other play, the parents of those players, mainly hardworking steelworkers, they would have been incensed. Because the fathers wore chinstraps and jockstraps in their day as well. And no one would question the call. And almost every time, they “scored the fucking touchdown”. Because you played to win. And that work ethic was instilled in all those young men on the team-put in the work and play to win. Decades later that 5’4” football player is 61, has Stage 4 Metastatic Prostate Cancer that has spread to his abdominal and pelvic lymph nodes, and frankly has a poor prognosis. But throughout the cancer treatment, including almost 60 straight days of radiation and other treatment that continues to this day, and will daily the rest of his life, taking no days off, he was at his desk before 630am as an attorney representing his clients’ who depend on him, because most of them can’t afford to play it safe. Because they need someone to represent them who plays to win. To this day, he wears the chinstrap and the jockstrap and most definitely knows the difference between the two.

I’m not the one who justified my whining based upon NIL payments. I’m asking how you split the shit sandwich given there’s a huge disparity in how the NIL is distributed. Or do the homies draw the line at naming names? You don’t really have to know what you’re talking about if you just say they’re all eating shit.
What a lousy way to vent your spleen. But since you’re entitled why not? 
I don’t need to “split the shit” (weird expression, old timer). And I’m not justifying anything based on NIL. I’m pissed that we lost a game we should have won. Full stop.
It’s sports. We root for our team to win. We root extra hard when it’s against supposedly our most bitter rival. Beyond that, a lot of the people on here invest heavily in the program – with their money, with their time, with their passion. How do you want us to react after what we saw yesterday?
I was equally incensed when we lost in equally miserable fashion to UC in 2017. But, to the extent that criticizing student athletes, or anyone under a certain age, was uncouth in the pre-NIL days – and I certainly did not subscribe to that belief – those arguments are completely meritless in college football circa 2026.
Huge respect for your cancer battle and best wishes for continued good health. As my old coach used to say “Winners just win!” Keep the victories coming.
To be clear my concerns re our game day coaching should be separated from the effort of our players . Yes they made some costly mistakes but their was great effort all over the field . Further I agree CM and his staff had the team ready to play ( unlike Pitt ). The play calling except for limited use of our TE’s and goal ine shotgun plays was the best in yers- is Gus calling some or most of the plays? Yes CM recruits well and does a good job in overall team management. The problem has been game day coaching and his O and D approach to the game. CM reminds me of lawyers I have known and worked with that had excellent research and writing skills and were good with clients but they were not good in the court room or in deal making. Fortunately in most cases those attorneys knew ( or were told ) to direct their skills to their strengths and not venture into their weak areas. CM’s game day management and his style of play will continue ( eg limited run game , chunk pass plays , no possession oriented O etc and soft prevent type D ) and we will win very few if any important OOC games - how well we play against UConn will tell a lot of where this team will go this year and whether CM and close long time friend assistant coaches can make game time adjustments and execute four quarters of good coaching - no more UNLV’s , UC second half’s etc ) Support for Miami football will continue to dwindle unless we can win the UC, UConn, Wisconsin etc type of games. DS has to know this BUT will he take any action?
There’s another change to college sports in 2026 that warps the relationship between team, fan and winning.

I’m still pissed – we’re all still pissed – because we blew a lead to our biggest and oldest rival in its last scheduled game. How much has your grey matter deteriorated to not figure that out? Congrats on not having your day ruined as much as the rest of us, I guess.
