Read that former MU golf coach Rodger Cromer passed away. Guy won 11 MAC championships and had two teams place 13th at the NCAA’s. For a school in our geography without the benefit of year round sunshine, that’s pretty great. He also saved golf from the chopping block so he’s got my endless respect.

One of his tasks at Miami was to assign officials for intramural activities and I did some officiating for him as a student. After graduation I never ran into him again until I started running into him and his wife at the Grand Victoria Casino ( Rising Star now). I had many good conversations with both of them while we played adjoining video poker machines. Nice people and both were active fans and proud of Miami.

Ps, I hope you hit a couple lucky reels here and there. I did a lot of work for Harrah’s at one time and one time (read once) I won big. It’s a funny story.

Hall of Famer and the best golf coach Miami will ever have (even if he wasn’t good at golf himself). Best recruiting find in campus history may have been Maarten van den berg from The Netherlands. Absolute stick!

I knew him well. Was his same time period. People forget he was NCAA freshman of the year. Beat out Tiger! Hurt his back and wasn’t the same after.
