I just hope one of the two guys who have to wear the pastel pinnies get a shot.

Wildcat with Scoop if Caleb goes down.

I believe there’s a Bolden connection to Ballcoach, too.

So dumb not to run it!

I understand the inclination to blame Chuck. I’m also mad at Chuck. But also: a 3rd string MAC QB being what Heavner was is a predictable outcome. This is not an anomaly. Third string QBs don’t get reps w the 1s. Heavner is physically limited. We still do not have a run game. This stinks. But it shouldn’t be a huge shock.

The QB did not CAUSE this lose. Penalties, the D giving up a couple of big plays, the D allowing a long drive, HORRIBLE clock management at the end, these were the big contributions to this debacle. Our offensive line has been bad to mediocre most years, our pass coverage does not help always giving up 8-10 yards way too much.

Not a one unit or person problem. Well, except for the coaching staff.

Heavner wasn’t good, but he did enough. You can’t ask much more from a 3rd string QB in the MAC than around 200 yards and a TD. He had happy feet, took too long to get the ball out, and scrambled too often thinking he could still outrun everyone else, but thats all to be expected.

But he protected the ball, didn’t fumble or throw it away.

There’s plenty of blame to go around, but given the expectations and timing of him stepping in, Heavner gets the smallest slice. He did enough to beat a team like BG.

Heavner was good enough for Miami to win this game. One can blame the loss on any number of things; 1) a tremendous number of missed tackles, 2) little to no pass rush, 3) terrible play in the secondary, particularly from the safeties, 4) giving the smallest RB in the room the bulk of the carries, and of course, 4) extremely poor and mind-boggling clock management, but NOT Heavner.

What I saw from Heavner is someone who has serviceable skills, but someone who hasn’t quite adjusted to the speed of the FBS game. That should rectify itself with more and more live snaps.

Stats like this don’t tell the full story. But we saw a huge drop off in QB play. Heavner was a 40.3. We went from an elite passing game to a below-average one overnight.

Somehow Eastern Michigan went on the road with their lowly rated QB and handed UMass their first loss.

Hard to believe anyone who watched the game would blame Heavner. The offensive line is a sieve due to injuries resulting in very little pass protection which also resulted in a terrible ground game. Different game and outcome with some success running it. BG had nothing to lose and credit their defensive play calling, it looked like they had our playbook. Unlike Mimi their DB’s were tight on the line especially compared to our 10-15 yards off, they bumped and held receivers to disrupt timing and were called for it once. They ran step for step with our receivers while our DB’s are clustered and leaving their receivers wide open. The score would have been worse if not for the dropsies by BG. Heavner played like a second string if not better playing against the BG bull rush.

Their D line looked like a volunteer fire apartment having a fund raiser with lots of pancakes offered up.

What injuries do we have on the oline?

Our oline and run game has been nonexistent for many years. Let’s not act like this is a one-off issue.

None that I know of.

Respectfully disagree. I understand where you are coming from but we’ve had decent rushing years but mostly too many mid-bottom conference totals which isn’t my point. My point wasn’t the year as it is specifically to this game.

Against have terrible losing records Chuck averages a very 200 yards per game. Saturday was terrible against a terrible team. As well as Heavner played, Saturday should have been a day where Chuck pads his rushing numbers. Before Saturday BG was giving up 295 rushing ypg and we picked up 108. They were giving up 175 passing ypg which we exceeded.

Shahu who we got in the portal this offseason. I don’t think he’s played a single game

The rushing performance against that BG team is definitely one of the frustrations I think we all have. How did we not do more? Why was our game plan not better? How could our oline not do better?

These mesh point runs where the QB holds the ball in the RBs belly for 3 minutes have GOT to go in the trash never to be run again. THEY DO NOT WORK.

Every time I see that play I’m amazed it doesn’t result in a fumble.
