I unfortunately can’t make it to Philly in time tomorrow so I have my 4 ticket allotment. My cost was $680 for all or $170 each, (includes fee) can transfer tomorrow.
Jrdex at cvg .
props to @yanksalex @Nickskin among others
Ticket office called me and I’m confirmed to go tomorrow with my wife. Pray that United comes through on the flight to Newark.
I know the arena is in a sea of parking next to the other stadiums, any tips from those familiar on where to go?
Cheesesteak recommendations: Cleavers in Center City and Tony Lukes nearer to the arena.
@HawkLBacker with the worst take in MHT history since “I’d still take Shelvin Mack over Kyrie.”
This isn’t 2008, man.
To further my post above:
Angelo’s is the consensus GOAT of Philly cheesesteaks and for good reason. It is probably the best sandwich I’ve eaten this side of Italy (and it beats the pants off a lot of sandwiches I’ve eaten in Italy too). Cash only. Order with fried onions and Cooper Sharp (i.e., fancy American) cheese. If you go to Angelo’s, you should get a pizza too- it’s also the best in Philly.
Others do an Angelo’s style cheesesteak (defined as: seeded roll, Cooper Sharp cheese) and very well. Del Rossi’s is my favorite example. Also great pizza.
If you’re downtown, go to Reading Terminal Market and eat your way through it. If you want a cheesesteak, stop at Uncle Gus which, again, does the Angelo’s style and does it exceptionally.
If you want a “classic” cheesesteak, do not, whatever you do, go to Pat’s of Gino’s (even though I’ve heard even they are evolving to offer a Cooper Sharp option). There is (or was) a Gino’s at Philly Live next to the arena. It might be worse, somehow, than the original.
For a “traditional” cheesesteak, my favorites are Jim’s and John’s Roast Pork. Ishkabibbles is pretty good and has a few locations. If you’re a real traditionalist, get your cheesesteak with cheez wiz (“wiz” = no onions; “wiz wit” = onions in classic Philly parlance). If you really can’t abide Cheez Wiz: first, get over yourself and get it anyway; second, provolone is probably your next best bet.
If you do find yourself at Tony Luke’s (one of LBacker’s suggestions), I’d get a roast pork and broccoli rabe before I got a cheesesteak. Still, other places do it better nowadays. Another classic Philly sandwich.
If you want a fancy, overpriced but still very good cheesesteak - go to Shay’s. Again, Angelo’s style.
The above is not a complete list. The Philly cheesesteak scene is constantly evolving and my opinions haven’t been updated since 2024 when I went to Del Rossi’s.
I plan to rock up to Angelo’s with a gaggle of Miamians between 12-1230 tomorrow. If you do go, don’t be daunted by the line. It moves fast and your sandwich will be out in 20-30 minutes. You’re on your own to find a place to eat it, though.
I have arrived. The first sign I saw as I arrived? Dunkin.
Bwahahahahahaha
I haven’t gotten to every place on Alex’s list, but as a guy who has spent too much time at UPenn over the last couple of years (long story), I’d endorse both Jim’s and Cleaver’s. Cleaver’s is more convenient if you’re staying in Rittenhouse Square or University City. Jim’s isn’t near anything particularly nice, but it’s worth the trip. (I should note that I have to rely on others to assess the quality of the roll at these places. The dumb long story that has me traveling up to UPenn also means I can’t eat carbs without risking bad stuff happening.)
I also agree with skipping Pat’s and Geno’s. They get the hype, but there are better cheesesteaks in town. If you’re in town for the weekend and can venture beyond Center City and the arena area, McNally’s up in Chestnut Hill makes “The Schmitter,” which I can only describe as a kaiser roll filled with cheesesteak toppings plus griddled salami and then topped with some sort of house-made sauce. It’s delicious but about a six-napkin job to eat.
The other lowkey star of the Philly trash food scene is crab fries – homemade french fries doused with Old Bay (or knockoff Old Bay) seasoning. They’re no longer on my game plan, but they are really good.
Crab fries are crack. There is a Chicky & Pete’s outpost in the arena.
Did we get Luke’s for the game against Temple? I brought the staff a bunch one year but can’t remember when. Or this morning’s breakfast for that matter
Even as a life long Pittsburgher, I cannot like this hard enough.
Alex always wants to flaunt his meat
Anybody get the actual tix yet?
Participating in the Green Beer Day tradition at a hotel during March Madness. I’ve literally waited decades for this opportunity.
Can’t go wrong with a roast pork from DiNic’s, either.
Just got them. Section 112
SOLD! Selling my Sec 112 Row 8, seats 1-4
$170 each
Posting soon to Ticketmaster, would much rather sell to true fans at face value than TM collect those fees ![]()
Like where to go around the arena for food and drinks? Basically just the Live! Complex or a casino.
Interested. Just DM’ed you
