That whole stadium is a Frankenstein monster: grey turf, huge gap between field/stands from the old track, awkward corner sections built for the WFL that are never filled, erector set architecture, supposedly the worst press box in the conference, paltry crowds. Kind of a perfect encapsulation of the MAC.
Only watched the 4th quarter but you could tell EMU was playing prevent until they needed to dig in. At least if we’re adding another UMass they’re paying a crap ton of money for it.

ESPN predicts Rutgers will finished 15th (out of 18) in the Big Ten this season. CBS predicts Rutgers will finish 4-8 overall and 1-8 in the Big Ten. Clearly, Rutgers is not that good this year, BUT… UMass is predicted to finish in the bottom three of the MAC by almost everyone.
I’m hoping Chuck Martin is watching this game.

These guys look well coached. Joe Harasymiak seems to know what he’s doing, and perhaps he finally finished the roster flush they needed.
There’s something to be said about an underdog that’s playing confident.
Rutgers having to tush push on 4th down (twice) while down by 20 to UMass? Yikes.

Rutgers looked absolutely miserable so hard to tell, but UMass could be decent this year. Or they could lose next week to an FCS team.

Was at the game, UMass looks legit. QB is an absolute stud and they have been super strong in the trenches. That being said, Rutgers has played truly one of the least fundamental games I’ve ever seen so yeah, maybe a mix of both.

This might legitimately be UMass’ biggest win ever, or at last since winning the 1-AA national title in 1998. This seems to be their first win over a power conference team in the modern era. Beating a terrible independent UConn team in 2021 obviously doesn’t count and the upset over BYU in 2017 was when BYU was still in the Mountain West.
A 42-37 loss to #20 Michigan in 2010 is as close as the program has been to a truly signature victory since joining FBS.
