I know you have the right priorities. It just seems like you believe this project, and the information stemming from it, should be a lot further along than it is at this point. That it’s being intentionally withheld. Instead of the reality that the project is in the early stages and these things take time.
I have no doubt information will be made public, and transparency offered, as it moves along.
I don’t care where the money comes from. I like some possible sites better than others, but none is a deal breaker. I mostly just want to see it built before I die.
Blues, we all know you love Miami, currently pay tuition to Miami and have the right priorities. But, you are incorrect in saying:
they need to disclose all the figures including funding.
the University is not being honest about this.
they need to disclose how much of the donor money is fully committed
I think the University is being VERY honest about this. Probably more than they’d like given where this project currently stands. They have no duty to give all the information to the public NOW. Everyone will get the details at some point, but I think you’re overestimating what you think we (mainly you) are entitled to. Especially at this juncture.
With that said, if David Sayler was targeting you for a $20 million gift, he would provide you more details as to the fundraising progress. But as fans, alums and parents, without super-deep pockets, I think we are getting adequate intel at the right pace/time.
Thanks. Now I remember: $15M anonymous donation was supposed to be roughly half.
Wow, there’s some perspective. In 2006 it cost $35M to build a state-of-the-art 3,000 seat facility with two sheets and despite inflation “only” raising prices by 50 percent in 18 years, the cost for this project is 5-6 times higher than Goggin.
All that you mention about inflation is true - but there really is a major apples to oranges comparison here. My understanding is the $35mm for the new Goggin Ice Center did not include $$ for the nearby parking garage or the demolition of the old Goggin. The $200mil project being examined now is including the new arena with a practice facility, a large parking garage to aid in parking (especially if located in central campus), and the complete demo of Millett. Not exactly a completely fair comparison - but no doubt it shows the escalation of construction costs over time.
There are ways to get this information. I am putting that process to work today. You are also somewhat mis-stating what I have said. I clearly said “prior to shovel hitting the dirt” the finances should be disclosed. I did not say right this minute. As to my pockets, there is an old blues song that describes them well “my buckets got a whole in it I can’t buy no beer”.
