What a great addition and at this point in the year. A testament to Chuck’s quality relationships.

A friend who’s a MSU alum says that Burton will do a great job here. He left MSU not on bad terms, but because Tucker was changing his approach to both coaching and recruiting. (Among other things, there are now two DL coaches, one of whom just does pass rush skills.)

Really excited about this hire. Hopefully he can get on the recruiting trail quickly and work some schools he’s already been at!

That is a bigtime resume. The guys on the d-line should be excited about this hire.

Agreed. I am very excited about this hire. (Not that I’m one of the guys on the d-line, but still.)

Great timing with all the new Dline rotations as well…maybe this sage wisdom pays off quick.

“Burton’s new job reunites him with a former player. Defensive back Michael Dowell [transferred from Michigan State to Miami in the offseason]”(Former Michigan State DB Michael Dowell transferring to Miami (Ohio) after previously headed to Pitt - mlive.com).

Burton coached the LBs at EMU from 1995-96 and then Chuck coached LBs at EMU from 98 - 99.

Somewhat related: saw article today from Columbus which notes that Ohio State’s 10 assistant football coaches earned a collective $8.78 mil a year. Pretty sweet gig for an assistant, eh?

High pressure situation. Last year after the second game they demoted their defensive coordinator and after the year they fired both him and the guy who replaced them. They went 11-2 and clearly placed the blame for the 2 on those guys.

Kerry Combs (who now is assistant at UC) was mentioned as prospect for our HC when there were those calling for Chuck’s head a couple years ago…in his last year at OSU, Combs was making $1.4 mil a year, well over double of Chuck’s salary. An amazing reality of the P5 “world” vs. ours and the other G5 programs.

Colerain coach to 1.4 mil assistant, not bad
