Miami’s NIL- Red Brick Legacy

What type of protections do these contracts provide? Broad description of the protective clauses are fine. Thanks.

I set up a small, monthly recurring donation to RBL about a year ago. At the time, I didn’t receive a confirmation email, which I thought was odd. And since then, I have not received any correspondence from RBL. I’m not really expecting anything, but just curious if others are having the same experience? I’d probably give more if I had a little insight into the operation.

Great article on the new landscape of college football and pay to play.

Deep dive look at the the process works with Tennessee.

Trying to remember:

Tommy played at Ben Davis in Indy. His high school coach (name escapes me) (Simmons?) subsequently took a job on Miami’s staff. He then moved on to a bigger program. Does anyone know where he is and could that influence any portal activity involving TG?

His son is on Miami’s team so I would hope it wouldnt be that way

Jason Simmons left after the 2023 season to go to Purdue. However, he left after the coaching change and it is reported than he is now the Dean of Students at Noblesville (IN) HS.

His son Brady is a WR on Miami’s roster after transferring in from IU for this season.

As far as the QB room at Purdue, it is rather crowded. That includes Coach Barry Odom’s son who was a freshman this year.

The incumbent starter was a sophomore this year.

They also have transfers from Washington State, Arkansas and Arizona State who are all underclassmen.

We are in a brave new NIL world, so I don’t know how much we can take from the past few years even, BUT the past few years do not suggest a MAC QB leaving to play up unless they were an elite PoY type player. I can only think of Finn to Baylor and Rourke to IU as cases that fit. Gabbert tested the portal but came back. All 3 of those cases were as upperclassmen.

Maybe I’m optimistic, but I don’t worry about Gotkowski this offseason. The team is his and there is no guarantee he will play or start anywhere else as a sophomore. If he has an elite sophomore year next year and wins MAC PoY after taking Miami to the CFP, I’ll be much more nervous but personally drive him to the airport and shake his hand.

History says we should be very worried about a defensive stud like Trick and WR star like Perry or Weaver.

Semonza from Ball St would be the closest Gotkowski comparison. He had an impressive freshman year at Ball State: almost 3000 yards, 25 TDs, 10 INTs. Won MAC freshman of the year. He transferred to Tulane where he didn’t win the starting job as a BYU transfer also came in and won the job. There’s also a couple other P4 transfers that came in to Tulane, so who knows where he is buried on that depth chart, and I wouldn’t be surprised to see him back in the MAC in 25-26.

Georgia is suing a player for $390K for transferring so who knows:

As much as I like TG, I can’t see him being a priority for a P4 program with at most 4 games started at QB.
