We are gonna win the MAC in men’s hoops. I am very serious about that. It’s gonna require us staying healthy and getting a ton better but I believe we can and will.
My favorite part about Cbushawk was when his son wasnt going to go to Miami as an athlete because of the nerds and then finding out his son is a lacrosse athlete (which of course is a sport Miami doesnt have as varsity)
All in with Steele, all in with this team, all in with Cooper . My point is that Cooper’s level of play at present is lacking- numerous passing mistakes in the CMU game, poor use of the glass on lay ups and his shooting stats speak for themselves. That said he is a key contributor. Although Cooper may have better D stats at present my sense in watching Skaljac is that his D game is very strong, his ball movement and passing excellent and his shooting also excellent. Steele has done a good job in managing the line up and I trust he will continue to make good decisions. Some competition for playing time however often a good thing. I continue to believe we need to get more touches in space for Woolfolk and add a Bigg/ rim protector via the portal.
I noticed that on the Miami site. Do we really ride the bus 5 1/2 hours and then play the same night? If so that makes the win that much more impressive.
Players’ skills ebb and flow during the course of a season. All sorts of things come into play ranging from personal to professional issues and the numerous nuances they both possess.
Basketball can be very tough because players are within hearing distance of fans…as well as coaches. A great coach can detect what’s ticking with kids and make the necessary adjustments before they spiral from bad to worse to hopelessly lost. My read on Steels is that he’s pretty intuitive about these things and seems able to get the right guys on the court to keep the team moving forward.
Team chemistry so far on this team appears very good and the kids all seem to like where they are…
It’s always hilarious when a nerd (straight out of Saved by the Bell’s casting department for extras) such as CBusHawk tries to call others nerds and dorks.
As for a big out of the portal, our new signee,Tyler Robbins, is listed at 6’10", 230. A couple weeks ago, Coach Steele called him an “aircraft carrier” because of his size. Not only that, but he is now 7’ with a 7’3" wingspan. Watch his videos–he’s a great rim protector and leads the state of Pennsylvania in blocked shots, averaging over 5/game. He will be a great addition to the team. More size is always a good thing.
Thanks MightyMU1- I was not aware of his size/ wingspan etc - if he can protect the rim and rebound at the D1 level I withdraw my portal suggestion ( it still might be good insurance to have a 5th year senior portal BIG for next year - I think next year we get real serious about The Dance ). BTW I forgot to say how much Elmer means to this team - 9 rebounds and some great clutch D at CMU - he adds so much when he is on the floor .
I couldn’t watch the game, but it sounded like an ugly win. I’ll take it. Especially impressed with a different sub stepping up in the last three games: Potter (10 pts, 5 boards) against EMU, Ipsaro (14 pts) against Ohio and Skaljac (13 pts, 2 crucial 3’s) last night. Guaranteed a winning season, but looking forward to a finish much less modest.
Let’s be honest, we’re all on a message board posting at least a few times a week about Miami Redhawks athletics. We’re all probably nerds to some extent.
Eby body
I like Skaljac, but Cooper should still start at this point. He didn’t score, but had 4 assists against 2 turnovers and played very good defense on Pritchard. Skaljac has been up and down defensively and with turnovers. He’s been better than most freshmen in both of those categories, but I don’t see any reason to change there.
The use of nerd really depends on the context. For instance:
-Being called a nerd on a sports forum is likely a badge of honor as it means you know a lot of sports shit.
-Being called a nerd by a partner you work with in a law firm is probably also a badge of honor as again you know obscure legal shit.
-Being called a nerd in the bedroom by your partner/lover/hooker is never going to be an honor. If you know too much shit, you’re likely just a pervert.
Saturday’s opponent Troy, lost to JMU tonight, 64-61. Troy now 15-8, was 2.5 underdog at JMU.
Suder was the one who did a tremendous job on Central’s star point guard. He spends about half his time playing both the 2 and the 3 spots.
I mean to some extent it’s splitting hairs, but to me he’s a guard. And at times our lead playmaker.
Metrics aside the eye test to me indicates he’s one of our better players on defense.
This is what the procedure was in the past. For a weeknight game, leave in the early afternoon and drive to your hotel. Get a shoot a round at the gym that night and or the next morning. After the game make the long drive back to Oxford. Get to bed in the middle of the night but you must get up and attend class. NCAA rules say you have to take one day a week off with no practice, so the day after the weeknight road game is a no practice day.
I would guess that this is still the way it is done. One advantage of J-term is that players do not have to get up and go to class after getting home in the middle of the night. Having to go through all that bus travel and uprooting your normal sleep patterns is a big disadvantage for a road team…It is not such a big problem on Saturday games as there are no classes to go to on Sundays.
To quote Charlie Coles, “When I find out who let Buffalo into this league, boy are they gonna hear about it!”
Sure sounds like Charlie!
That’s what I figured. The post on Miami’s web site must have been misleading. I hope so anyway.
