I think if they lose one regular season game and don’t win MAC tournament they’ll still get in as an at-large, but more than two losses and they likely don’t (though I would be happy if they played in Dayton).
I feel like having our third loss against BG instead of OU at home or away isn’t accurate. OU rival, two games, going to be tough
That’s what I told a non-Miami buddy of mine. Quick search says last Miami win in Athens was 15 years ago. Of course, that didn’t stop Miami from winning in Toledo this year.
I agree. Undefeated in the regular season and I think they’re in no matter what happens in Cleveland.
Lose 1 in the regular season and I would suggest they make the title game if they want an at-large. Maybe even sent to Dayton.
A 3 loss Miami team with this schedule isn’t getting an at-large no matter how you split the pie.
Agree
1809er will speak of secret papers passed around P4 teams that told them not to play us
we needed to go on the road and play any P4 teams, this wasn’t done, hard to believe Rutgers, Pitt, N’western, WVU, etc would not host us
Hopefully we run the table
I’m not on the zoom calls but given the current state of college basketball and where those types of programs currently are, it would have been absolutely shocking if any of those teams wanted to play us. Pitt is an absolute mess (lost to Quinnipiac and Hofstra at home, we would have beaten them probably handily…). Rutgers was coming off a horrible year despite having two lottery picks. New coach and new roster for WVU. Middling Big 10 teams would never play us if we looked promising.
Not getting bought by any of the top 10 teams is kind of surprising but I’ll take Travis’s word for it. But there’s no way we were ever going to get bought by a mid P4 team that had a lot of questions coming into the season.
Lion, we asked every p4 team in in the county if we could come play there. We gave them multiple dates. Not a single one said yes
We did not ask for return games. We did not ask for more buy money than standard. Every single p4 team was asked.
Now what else should Steele have done? Should we have offered to pay them to come play at their arena?
One other thing to consider regarding our 25-26 OOC schedule–we have no control or knowledge how teams will be year to year. If you look at the teams we scheduled (not including the 3 non-D1 games) on paper it doesn’t look so bad if based on the 24-25 season results:
Maine was 20-14–now 6-18
Eastern KY was 18-14, now 8-16
UNCAsheville was 21-11, now 11-13
Wright St was 15-18, now 15-9 (home and home deal)
AF was 4-28, now 3-19 (home and home deal)
Mercyhurst was 15-18, now 12-12
UNC Greensboro was 20-12, now 9-15
PineBluff was 6-25, now 9-13
Marshall was 20-13, now 15-8 (Sun Belt Challenge)
ODU was 15-20, now 7-17 (Sun Belt Challenge)
Thats -59 win difference at this point and we have no control over how teams are year to year when making schedules. We scheduled four 20 win teams and three of them are awful this season with Marshall being the only one that will potentially get to 20 this year. Maine, EKY, UNCA & UNCG having awful seasons is what is really hurting our SOS.
WTF are you talking about? When and where did I EVER say or imply that I “speak of secret papers passed around P4 teams that told them not to play us”? Show me when and where I said this? NOW! You just make shit up, or what? I’d ask for a retraction but I could care less who you are or what your motivation is.
If you don’t know what the hell you are talking about or just talking crap, just STFU. OK?
Just win, baby.
I politely disagree. It will be a tougher environment - but this OU team isn’t particularly strong. Last 15 years are sort of meaningless. We will be big favorites vs. OU at home, and favorites à la the Buffalo game on the road.
Frankly, I think @ UMass will be our second-toughest remaining game on the schedule.
That’s a list of 4 P4 teams who would NEVER schedule a team like Miami.
The NET was created in 2018. That season UB returned the core of the reigning MAC champ and Round of 32 team and managed to schedule a ranked WVU, ranked Marquette, and Syracuse (plus mid-majors like St. Bonnie and SIU). It’s no coincidence that once programs and conferences figured out how to game the system that those type of winnable buy games dried up across the country.
That’ll definitely be tough, tho Miami hopefully has a full roster for the return game. Having Skaljac will obviously be a boost.
There is no chance of making ncaa tournament unless they win Mac championship
All we should care about at present is Marshall- UNFINISHED BUSINESS- max effort will be needed Saturday in a shit hole environment
Certainly not true.
If we get past Saturday and OU, at UMass will be pretty tough and I’m hoping they get their sh!t together so that it’s a quad 2 loss if it happens. They have work to do to get to that point….
Can yall imagine how angry theman must be with us undefeated right now? I’m amazed that he can even compose himself enough to post insults here at the moment.
