We have already lost Ivy Wolf to Dayton. Cluse is in the portal. Peyton Scott is reportedly in the portal. Now one of our 5 signees just announced she has reopened her recruitment. Now is not the time to procrastinate. Part of the AD’s job is to have a list of candidates ready if something like this happens. Plus given the writing on the wall with her 35-80 record, Hendrix was not long for Miami even if this fiasco hadn’t occurred. We don’t need to hire multiple recruiting firms, talk to 8000 people etc. Get this done and get it done now so we can try to salvage this mess. And get people talking about the new coach. ---

The further this goes the more it seems to me we need to hire someone we already know and respect - someone with deep and abiding Miami ties - but only if she is interested in taking on possibly one of the most difficult rebuilds in Miami athletics history. ---

Why does it have to be difficult? Our team was not good last year. You could bring in 15 new faces and likely get the same result. I might be in the minority here but this is a total blank slate with huge potential. There are quality players all over the country/world. At D2, NAIA, JC and transfer portal. In addition to high school. The right coach might actually win more games than whatever the high water mark was from the last regime. In year one! ---

It’s difficult, Yellow, because consistent losing breeds stigma. We just capped off four straight dismal seasons while playing a fairly pedestrian schedule. The proverbial icing on the cake was a current sex scandal involving the head coach and a player. It that weren’t enough, our three best players just left via the portal. A new coach will need to rebuild trust in her integrity, her coaching abilities and her commitment to the University. It’s not a job for a two or three year carpet-bagger. ---

Captain Obvious again here, but this is really on AD…no, he didn’t know about the inappropriate relationship (at least until April 19 as reported(, but Hendrix should have already been dismissed due to her poor performance and team record. It’s pretty much on Sayler although he may have been hamstrung by Miami’s financial situation and unwillingness to pay the buyout fee. 35-80 record … yikes ---

I value your pov. I just don’t see it the same way. Throughout history in all sports, there are plenty of programs that went from being terrible to good simply by hiring a good coach. It’s not hard to see why. Good coach has better connections to talent, better strategy on the court, better vision off it. And likely better connects with alums, boosters etc. The program isn’t good, but the path back to being good doesn’t have to be laborious. ---

Interesting that - in reviewing her contract - we apparently held money in reserve to sweeten her payout based on various positive performance points but no money is available to protect ourselves from poor performance. ---

I would say that what you are missing is that we had a talented starting lineup this year with all of them eligible to return and a talented recruiting class of 4 girls signed. They were just very poorly coached. By the time we get a new coach and staff in place most or all of them will be gone and it will be extremely late in the game to get involved with transfers as most will be signed. ---

As a number on this site have stated we should not be in this situation - Hendrix should have terminated last year due to her record, poor coaching, inability to keep players on the team, and poor assistant hiring. We have had the same situation developing for a period of time in hockey and there are real questions re baseball and maybe volleyball. Oversight has been needed for years in football - if we had a decent OC to go with our strong D we would have had 7/8 + win seasons. Dave S has done a good job in raising money but after that it is at best an average to poor record. ---

On paper, as a script, it’s brilliant on Miami’s part. You find out about it. You protect the girls privacy. You tell the coach she’s being investigated and will have her chance to tell her story. She saves you the time, money, and effort and resigns. The only condition on you is that you can only provide the dates she worked there. Fine. The isn’t someone looking for a regional sales manager of widget maker. Anyone who looks at her record and sees that she has no references of any significance from the school she just coached at, just a timeline from, isn’t going to take her seriously 90% of the time. But, just to be sure she never gets another chance let’s have someone…no one knows who, leak it. You just have to have the right person leak it. Student volunteer, player, someone not officially on the payroll. It makes a nice little script. That said. I’d really like to dig into her time at High Point. ---
