Imo at this point it’s more Cody Campbell and his ego keeping this rolling. Unfortunately for him and Ken Paxton, Lubbock isn’t the center of the universe and a united Big 12 front might be strong enough to hold them off even if they keep doubling down. Conference leaders rightfully see this as existential.

I get that it’s a mental health condition, but that shouldn’t give him protection to engage in an activity for which his condition specifically could cause serious harm.
If I have a severe case of narcolepsy, the ADA would certainly protect me from some discrimination. I, however, dont think it would give me the right to be an air traffic controller.

This. Campbell pretty much runs the AD AND the board of trustees. If the President attempted to change course, I’d bet he’d be out in a minute. TTU is starting to make Auburn look like a thoughtful example of properly prioritized university governance.

I am just glad the conference is pushing back. I now think it is unlikely that Sorsby sees the field
I am shocked that Texas Tech is fighting this. We all know how much influence select boosters can have but I would never have thought any school would fight this battle.

Hawk - you are correct- under the ADA an employer can still reject an applicant even if the applicant has a disability if the employer can show that the applicant even with a reasonable accommodation cannot safely and efficiently perform all the essential functions of the job. An employer can also prevail by showing the suggested accommodation would cause it to suffer an undue hardship. Of course here TT is taking the position there is no undue hardship, the requirements in the judges order constitute a reasonable accommodation and Sorsby can safely and productively perform the essential duties of a college QB w/o endangering himself or others.Stated alternately if TT refused to let him play TT would be discriminating against on disability status.I do not like the above arguments esp in this case but they nevertheless are out there. I also doubt if his " disability " will have been cured by this fall and whether he can safely perform all of his essential duties by then . This situation reminds me in part of the former OSU QB Art Schlichter who never was cured I believe of his gambling addiction and went on to harm himself and others,
He’s officially in the supplemental draft. Gotta figure the Big XII’s lawsuit against TTU and the state of Texas (which was filed in federal court in Dallas, not state court in Lubbock) precipitated this.

For what it’s worth, here’s a link to the Big XII’s complaint. I assume it’s true that the conference bylaws (1) were adopted unanimously and (2) allow a supermajority of schools to sanction any conference member for literally any reason. I also assume it’s true that Texas Tech was among the schools that voted to sanction Baylor over its football sexual assault scandal under this rule, even though the conference bylaws have nothing directly to say about sexual assault by athletes.
I don’t see how the school (or Texas AG Ken Paxton, sued because he threatened to bring an antitrust lawsuit) win here. I think Sorsby’s agent saw the writing on the wall, or the school counseled him out.
TTU issued a statement that Sorsby can keep all the money they paid him. My guess is this was part of the “unhitching” process.

I think for Campbell to back down, the B12 were hinting at penalties far more damaging to TTU and its football program than not having Sorsby on the field. Had TTU fought them and brought the Texas AG into the matter, it wouldn’t surprise me if expulsion from the conference was going to be on the table.
Even if you don’t assign a high probabilistic assessment to that risk, the negative expected value of getting thrown out of the Big XII likely outweighs any marginal benefit of having Sorsby as the QB for a playoff run by an order of magnitude. Texas Tech’s position here was only rational when it believed the other Big XII schools would not fight back in an organized manner. Once that assumption was falsified, their position was untenable.

You’re assuming Paxton files lawsuits based on the merits of the case. 
I think the 2024 UC win at Yager needs an asterisk - at the very least.

Apparently, Campbell has already been in a pissing match with Yormark over scheduling. Imagine hiw low rent you have to be as a university that the chair of your board is picking public fights with the conference commissioner over the football schedule.
Campbell had better tread lightly. Yormark saved that conference when it was dead man walking, and the other half of the schools owe him their lifelines. Cody’s billion counts for nothing outside of Lubbock.
Tortilla Tech really needs to find another sugar daddy.

That school has been doing an awful lot of bragging about their awesomeness for not scoring a point in the CFP.
If he’s not careful he’ll find himself on the outside looking in at TTU too. He has the money, yes, but if other members of the board get tired of him, that won’t matter.
