When I saw this article I was waiting for for the April Fools. But it’s legit
Well, yeah, it’s not April 1st.
I like the idea of continuing to put the NIT at a college venue in the Final Four host city. It really turns the final into a celebration of college hoops and worked well here in Indy last year. Obviously Hinkle has more cachet than Detroit Mercy, but it looks like its a fairly historic venue in itself, so probably the best option in Detroit.
The real NIT news, for what its worth, is shrinking the field in response to NCAA expansion so the number of teams playing postseason basketball is about the same as years past. Definitely not much interest in giving mid majors a chance to showcase.

Not that the NIT was that sexy to begin with, but at least it gave non-tourney teams the chance to make it MSG and get more practice/game time. With tournament expansion, The Crown, and the portal there isn’t much of a point for it to exist anymore.
