That sounds like 33-6 to me.

I hope that’s the case but we all know CM tends to go conservative.

The second half of the game may be the worst half of football I’ve played in a video game ever. It’s at least the worst half I’ve played since I made the switch from Sega to the original PlayStation and I didn’t even care that the computer’s Florida State blew out my Colorado team 49-3 because I was just trying learn the PS controls. But this was probably worse because I made some really poor choices with 2 throws and one insanely dumb decision that should have cost me the game. More on that later.
OU scored first, getting a FG on the opening drive. After that Miami’s D squashed the Bobcats for most of the rest of the half. And OU had no answers for Brett Gabbert. He threw 3 touchdown passes in the first half, connecting with Reggie Virgil, Javon Tracy, and Keyon Mozee for the scores. I actually got lazy in the closing seconds and OU hit a deep pass to set up a field goal. Still, Miami had the 21-6 lead at the break and this seemed like a game the RedHawks would name the score.
Then the 2nd half started. Generally I try to follow the Chuck Martin approach and try to kill the clock so the score never really ends up getting out of hand. That was not the case here. I was still trying to run the offense that was nearly flawless in the first half. Now it was the opposite of flawless. OU cut the lead to 8 when Gabbert threw a pick 6 on an attempted bubble screen to Cade McDonald. Total user error. I could see the DB in position to cut in front and for some reason I still tried to force it. Later in the quarter, OU would score again thanks to a short field. Miami’s D stopped the 2-point conversion attempt, so the good guys still had the lead. The RedHawks then went on a great time-consuming drive… and yet again I made Gabbert force a throw. Tracy was open in the end zone for a split second but the throw took too long to get there and OU picked it off at the goal line and looked to have another pick 6. Mozee actually ended up making one of the best defensive plays of the game, because he made the tackle at Miami’s 5, preventing the TD. Miami’s D did its job again but OU still hit the chip shot field goal to take the 22-21 lead with 6:45 remaining.
Again, Gabbert and O marched down the field and continued to drain clock. Facing a 4th & inches from the OU 2 with 1:06 remaining, I made a bizarre call. It’s a call that would cause this message board to blow up if it happened in real life. Instead of kicking the simple field goal and relying on the D, I decided to call a QB sneak. My thinking was OU had the momentum and the video game always favors the team with the mojo at that moment, meaning OU would be able to get into FG range with that full minute still to play. I figured Gabbert would get the first down, I’d force OU to burn its 2nd timeout, then its final timeout, then I’d kick the easy FG to win it. Plus, virtual Chuck hadn’t burned a TO in the second half, so in case the worst happened, I could still get the chance to get the ball again.
Then the worst happened. OU stuff Gabbert on the sneak and took over at the Miami 2. An OU first down would do it. But Miami’s D did its job yet again. I sold out on the run on all 3 plays. Honestly, OU should have risked a passing play, it would have worked. Instead, the D stuffed the Bobcats on all 3 plays, highlighted by Silas Walters making the tackle on 3rd down (for the record that would be the 2nd straight year Walters made the key 3rd down stop). My gamble paid off. OU’s punt didn’t reach midfield and McDonald returned it to the OU 39. A couple of first downs and a couple of spikes and Dom Dzioban hit the 32-yarder to win the MAC championship.
Good lord I hope it’s not that stressful tomorrow.
Gabbert was player of the game, completing 25 of his 34 passes for 200 yards with the 3 TDs and the 2 INTs. Mozee had 121 yards on the ground, plus the TD catch and the TD-saving tackle. Jack Coldiron quietly ended up as the leading receiver with 63 yards. And Matt Salopek did Salopek things, with 8 tackles, 2 sacks, and a forced fumble.

Virtual MAC champs. Let’s make it reality tomorrow.
Anyone want to guess how many times Dave is going to have to say “Don’t make me stop this car!” on the way to Detroit?
I say @HawksVox gives the person who is the closest a shout out on air. Much more value than one gently used golf tee from the bottom of Eddie’s bag.

They get One td in garbage time. Defense rules the day. Gets us great field position and offense is clean.
A Chuck kind of game.
