Central Michigan

7-5 Miami at the under 16 timeout. Solid start to the game. I hope we don’t double the post again because we don’t have to against their bigs. 2 back door cuts executed nicely except for the missed dunk on offense.

I feel like that missed dunk was a missed foul. Safford got hammered on the side of his head going up.

Offense can seem like they’re three happy, but they really take what the defense is giving. CMU is overplaying, so the cuts are working. Glad they can adapt.

Billy Smith looking a bit timid defensively in transition. Press started working a bit better with Lairy out. Assuming we took him out with the intent to get him back in after the TV timeout.

13-11 Miami at the under 12 timeout. Defense has been solid, the right guys for Central are shooting. It was 13-7, but when Lairy went out and Lewis took over the point, we lost some of our mojo and gave Central a couple of easy chances, though one involved 2 not called traveling violations. Nice mid-range pullups from Safford and Williams in that stretch.

17-13 Miami at the under 8 timeout. Defensively, while we’re not playing an offensive juggernaut by any means, we’ve been sharp and we’ve fought hard on the glass. Offensively, more movement is required. The high pick and roll with Mirambeaux and the ballhandler is working.

Defense is looking very competent so far (knocking on wood after saying that)

Mo lighting it up!!!

Mo decided he was not ok with the game being tied

Is Etzler still injured?

25-18 Miami at the under 4 timeout. A couple of quick triggers by Safford has widened the margin. Defensively, if we keep doing what we’re doing, we’ll be in good shape.

Two questionable calls on Miami. Refs inherently want to even things out.

Lairy struggling to hit from deep, missed a layup, and a turnover. Just needs to settle a bit.

And now Billy Smith lazy with the ball while the team was struggling to execute against the zone.

We haven’t played as well as we’re capable of, but still winning.

That might have been the worst half of basketball I have ever seen in my 30 years of watching MAC basketball

Did you not watch during the Cooper era? Or the Owens era?

We executed offensively very well for the first 15 minutes and played very tight defense. Didn’t finish some looks we should’ve, but those are looks we couldn’t generate in the offense previously.

29-26 Miami at the half. Poor shot selection and some turnovers prevented us from widening the lead. Neither team shot 40% in the 1st half. Central is +9 on the boards with 9 offensive rebounds though it didn’t seem like they got that many. Central also had 9 turnovers.

We were ok until the last couple minutes. Need to clamp down on our turnovers too.

3 for 11 from three and still ahead. I’m good with that.

Not the best last 3 mins of the half after building up a solid lead. Gotta come out strong to start the second half and hold on.

Safford was 3 for 5 on threes. Everybody else for both teams was 2 for 19. We only scored 2 points in the last 4 minutes.

No minutes for Tatum, Lewis was back up point guard.

Lairy just handing the ball over. Did a great job coming up with that 3, but needs to be much more consistent in tight games.

35-33 Miami at the under 16 timeout. Smith had a great offensive rebound that led to a Lairy 3. 2 mistakes then by Lairy offensively gave Central 3 points. I’m still ok with making their post guys beat us on single coverage, rather them beat us than Taylor or Zarzuela.
