Just to be clear, I wasn’t making a joke.
Absolutely. Read up on your history. Know where you are. My wife and I walked to and took pictures of the murals in (London) Derry. We walked through some nice neighborhoods and received some intense stares. Be thoughtful and don’t make dumb comments.
Did you get the Bobby Sands mural?
Yep. Can’t find the darn photo.
Yeah, I’ve asked a dozen or so people for Ireland/NIR suggestions and all have said the Guinness Brewery is a must, regardless of how you feel about the product.
I used to drink a ton of the stuff and still enjoy it on occasion. I’d be all for trying it at the source.
Cliffs of Moher keep coming up as well. Looks like a significant travel day but worth consideration.
I’m having (relatively minor) surgery tomorrow so I got myself a little reading material for something to do while I’m off work.
Hope your “relatively minor” surgery goes well.
Thank you! It’s “just” having a skin cancer removed from my eyelid…wear your sunscreen and get your skin checked, everybody!
Amen.
Yep, my dermatologist tells me every six months that I need to use sunscreen and wear a hat EVERY time I go outside. I have had three total face peels and so many individual freeze things I can’t remember. Two surgeries. I go back in a few weeks and am pretty certain it’s time for another total face peel. Oh well.
Notre Dame has released a fan apparel guide for this year’s tournament, and it reads like “please do not wear anything traditionally associated with the program.”
That’s a good idea on the part of the “Irish”. I hope all their fans comply and are respectful of the location.

Time for everyone to order Black & Tans at the local pubs.
Don’t propose a toast to Oliver Cromwell, either!

It looks like flights for this date range will go live in about two weeks. Considering a flight I was planning to Charleston for a food crawl in March just dropped 25 percent and the Euro just lost 5 percent of its value, I’m pretty optimistic.
Prices for the Thanksgiving-ish range to either Dublin or Belfast were around $600 out of Cincinnati this year and ~$500 out of O’Hare if one went Monday-Tuesday, but those numbers were considerably higher going weekend to weekend. As in $1,300.
I’ll post numbers as soon as they become available.
– I’ve asked the BLC if they’re going to have any involvement in terms of coordination and am waiting to hear back. Obviously there’s some interest here and from parents, etc., but this isn’t exactly a football Bowl or FB away game destination in terms of interest. I’ll let everyone know if I hear anything.
– Question for those who have been: I’ve very interested in the history of Northern Ireland and want to see the good and bad parts of the city.
That said, I was raised Catholic and still believe in a higher power, but I don’t practice religion or go to church. Is that a safe way to respond to anyone who asks about my religious beliefs in Belfast?
Flights just became available for the date range we’re looking at.
Monday (11/24) to Tuesday (12/2) from Cincinnati to Dublin seems like the cheapest option. Several overnight flights at ~$568 (ORD has one as cheap as $514).
Bussing/train-ing to Belfast looks easy and very inexpensive, especially with the plummeting Euro.
