From a strictly defensive matchup point of view, this is more than a fair point. (drops protest sign and goes home)
Seeing who starts the second half of a first game might be more insightful that who starts the first half of a first game.
Last night I actually checked the starting lineup for game 1 against Evansville last season. Not a single starter from that game is still at Miami.
No offense to last year’s starting five, but I think any of the combos suggested in this thread are an upgrade.
Yer a wizard
Lol, thanks. Or maybe I’m the one writing up the game notes???
Hopefully, your comment about that lineup not being an indication of Potter being out holds
App State has a few big men. My guess is Steele knows with App State’s 2 posts that are 6’9" and one that is 6’11" he is going to need to rotate Woolfolk, Kotecki, Potter so only one plays to start. I suppose if App State goes and stays big for any amount of time we may match.
It’s on ESPN+
Like I mentioned above, they will likely play together. They aren’t the same style either. Huntley is 6’11" but doesn’t rebound well and takes 50% of his shots from 3. Beaubrun is more of an inside presence, but at 6’9" 240. The two of them represent the extent of App State’s experienced big depth.
Miami’s plan will likely be to run and wear them out. Both will struggle to be effective if the game turns into a track meet, which is more what Miami is aiming for this season. The increased pace was noticeable at the scrimmage.
Freshman Marcus is an imposing presence at least on paper at 6’9” 250. Whether he plays who knows but similar size to Peyton Sparks.
Without being rude, he’s no Payton Sparks. If he has to play important minutes, it’ll be very favorable for Miami.
Don’t mean to be rude, but I said similar size. Didn’t say a damn thing about his ability. Matter of fact, and again, don’t mean to be rude, but I explicitly said, “whether he plays who knows”.
Here are Huntley’s highlights from a year ago. Mostly 3’s off the pass and the occasional tip in. Has some post moves too.
Sorry, didn’t mean to imply it was rude! I went on a bit of a video binge on a few of their bigs and my take on Marcus is he’s a bit awkward and raw still. But here’s an interesting tidbit - their redshirt freshman center, Luke Wilson, was originally committed to play tight end for Georgia Southern. He’s dropped ~25lbs from last season.
This. Often it proves to be tougher for a big man to guard a wing than it does for a wing to guard a big man.
Yes! It’s a trade off quite often. If their big man has to guard Elmer on the perimeter for example, and Eian can drive around him, that puts the defender in a difficult position. Also draws the post player away from the lane.
Does this game start at 630?
