Definitely. Need post or pre game concerts, fireworks, good enticing giveaways (not just a red cowbell you can get at the dollar tree)
There are 6 days out of 52 that a stadium is used for football games. Miami would be crazy to do anything from a physical infrastructure standpoint to try to improve attendance.
Last year Brick partnered with athletics to do pre-game events for hockey and basketball so there’s seemingly a relationship there. I would guess they are less likely to do a similar event for football because I’m assuming that with beat the clock that is a prime revenue time for them.
Remember that basketball didn’t generate the huge student boom until they were undefeated into late January. For football that probably equates to late October just in time for the god awful Tuesday night maction games.
I imagine the student boom would have started much earlier for basketball but J-term meant that students weren’t back on campus until the UMass game.
If you want a 8million roster, you got to play p4 “buy”‘games. We are getting over $3million next year between Nebraska and Purdue.
Yes and we should beat at least one of them…
The question is will Chuck publicly push the idea of trying to compete against Purdue? I’m guessing it will be the usual “they get the first 85 (actually more now) picks at recess” routine for Nebraska.
He was literally complaining about next years Nebraska game on hawk talk this week
Have you done that same search for getting to Brick Street? Because getting there seems no issue for the students.
Brick is more fun than watching Chuck Martin-led football.
Huge conflict between football and Brick. You should walk uptown on a Saturday. I promise you would think we are tailgating for some ranked opponent. Truth is no student cares about this football team and will not until we leave the MAC. Even if we are good in the MAC it is still the MAC. Basketball the logic is different. Yes we are in the MAC, but we have an opportunity to play meaningful/winnable out of conference opponents. That SMU game was incredible and sold out. Hockey is completely different in the best way possible. Brick hosted multiple pregame events last year and we sold out each game. The most notable one was before our win against Western Michigan. Being in the NCHC also helps because it is the best conference in hockey. Every game is meaningful. Long story short there is absolutely a conflict between Brick beat the clock and FB, but going to Brick on Saturday makes so much more sense then going to these football games. I implore you all to try it. Truly one of the best college experiences ever.
Yea, I’ll get right on that… NOT.
Oh, I’m not arguing that. Making a point that walking distance isn’t the issue. Have something someone wants to see or do, and they will make the walk.
Basketball has a much harder time scheduling meaningful opponents than football. I totally disagree with your point there. We played a neutral game with Cincy and hosted UConn (top 100 team for sure) this year
If we won meaningful OOC games at the beginning of each season, we would see a spike in attendance. But we don’t. Coming into MAC play at 1-3 or 2-2 each year just doesn’t create enthusiasm among the students (or alums for that matter).
I could see it from a current student’s perspective. If you are currently a junior at Miami, you’ve seen one very good men’s basketball season and one legendary men’s basketball season (not to mention the women’s excellent season last year). One possession away from the tourney in year one, winning a game in the tourney in year two. If you are someone who already thinks that basketball is a better avenue to win games that actually matter beyond our conference, these two years have done nothing but reinforce that.
But we have a substantially better chance of making a meaningful impact on the landscape of college hoops even if we win MAC games. Look at what happened last year. Football that does not translate at all. We win all the MAC games so what? We get to go play a bowl game against Fresno State? This does not invigorate fans who want to have a national presence. What is feasible in basketball, even in the MAC, is not feasible for football. Sure we had a horrible hoops schedule, but we still got ranked off of it. In football if we had an equally bad schedule and went undefeated we would never even be looked at to be ranked. Hoops versus football are two different landscapes. The trash OOC and MAC games go a longer way towards meaningful national presence in hoops.
More fans would have shown up for UCONN had the Victory Been home INSTEAD of the total 2nd half collapse which has no excuse.
Zero EXCUSE for thw STUPID c;lock management at the end of the BG game.
Team should be 4-1 and with a decent coaching staff would be.
Yes, we should 100% be 4-1. Very, very disappointing.
