Arizona State to NCHC in 24/25

Our obsession with the “Miami Man” paradox bit us again.

Schlossman said three-quarters of the league needed to approve Arizona State and the vote was unanimous. That makes me wonder if the CCHA would want Miami back.

If that league uses the same three-quarters voting threshold, that means six of eight members would have had to agree. BUGS is still bitter because of Cullen or something and would Rico and Co. at St. Thomas vote to bring Miami back?

Bemidji, Minn. St. and the Western UP schools are all 11-plus hours away, and would they all welcome that with open arms, especially with hotel costs in Oxford being some of the highest in the region? Seems like a hard sell for those small-budget schools, with little upside other than the proverbial getting the gang back together.

All we know is that Miami did not talk about leaving the NCHC (per Schlossman) and that Crawford voted yes to make it “unanimous.” We don’t know what Sayler said in the AD discussions. We don’t know what Berge said in the coaches discussions. Were either/both no votes? Without further inside info I take “unanimous” with a box of salt.

Back to lurking.

Do they have votes in the first place? Like, maybe they would prefer something else, but do they have any say beyond communicating their preferences to Crawford?

Excellent point.

Soo board not so subtly dropping hints that Fenton is trying to persuade St. Thomas to join the NCHC. Makes sense: They’re in the Summit for other sports, they’re geographically desirable (close and in a major metro area), would bring fans to the X in St. Paul (always a big source of anxiety for the league because that’s such a money maker) and is building a new rink. And Fenton obviously has the pre-existing relationship with Rico.
