Any new hoops Arena updates?

Zero seats. Everyone brings their own chairs

Found this since 2012

Years ago there was discussion of maintaining the Oxford student population, but increasing overall enrollment via international programs and study abroad/exchange programs. Is this what ended up happening, or is the Oxford student population increased by 20%

Kyle Decker of Red Brick Legacy on the Tony Pike show said the arena would be 6,500

I’ll save some people a google search, didn’t realize Decker was on the radio again: Cincy 360 -- Tony Pike with Red Brick Legacy - Cincy 360 with Tony Pike & Austin Elmore | iHeart

Between Chuck, Travis, and Decker this really is the best media attention Miami has gotten in SW Ohio in 20 years. They are definitely doing the work.

If accurate, a very reasonable capacity plan IMHO. I think it could have been a little smaller just for hoops, but as pointed out by many, there will be other uses for the new Arena which undoubtedly had an impact on the seating capacity determination.

Western Michigan’s new off campus arena will seat 6,500 for basketball and hockey and 8,000 for concerts.

For those who didn’t listen yet, Kyle stated that the goal for the project is for our new arena to be a Top 50/75 facility across all of DI. Ambitious for a MAC program but certainly attainable knowing how Gunlock was considered P5 quality when it opened.

Agree that 6500 is probably a sweet spot. Also keep in mind our expectations are probably a bit skewed from years of bad attendance and Millett being a dungeon for so long. 50% capacity in the new arena (3250) will probably feel a lot more lively than a larger 50% crowd at Millett today (4500ish) based on the design alone, not even including the energy the team brings with winning basketball.

Good size. But it is going to cost $300M, but thanks to the Stryker family who is picking up the tab, they don’t have money constraints like we do. Metro Kazoo has about 261,000 residents. When they do well, the city supports Western very well. If I was going to cut some teams from the conference, Western would not be one of them.
Currently has terrible facilities for bball/vball/hockey. This new facility will resolve that issue. Drawing looks great. Hope we can come close and I believe we will. But not $300M close.

Ted Stryker was also an excellent pilot back in the day.

Whatever the size, just make sure it has LEG ROOM. Millett is brutal for those of us taller than 6 feet. And stay away from the folding chair disasters, that are actually in the stands, that Wright State has lower to the court. Those are awful.

We have 9200 theater seats, but that does not include the bleachers at the North end, whatever we call the seating at the South end, or the courtside seating.

=>Carbonization is important.

Surely you can’t be serious.
