There were anecdotal reports that a number of top 20 schools used the waitlist more last year. During the first half of the year, several institutions had concerns regarding how the external environment might affect yield, so they offered fewer regular decision acceptances and more wait list slots to ensure that they filled the entire targeted freshman class. FWIW, places like Vandy or Northwestern basically never end up under-enrolled.
You are absolutely correct about the other budget issues you illustrated above, but thatâs all Iâll say in this forum.
In all due respect youâre wrong. I handle recruiting at the college level for HS kids. True those numbers are over $40m but those are NIL related and not paid by the schools. Theyâre paid from boosters and collectives. Like Nebraska has the 1890 Group that raises money for teams to then spend on athletes. Associated with the school, yes, but legally separate.
The $20.5m pay is revenue sharing money direct from schools to players. Not every school does it and $20.5 is the cap. Some kids get both. Some just NIL others just Rev share.
Eighty 8- given your role in working with HS seniors re college selection what impact if any do successful athletic programs ( esp BB and FB ) have upon applicant choice?
The players Iâve helped all look at the strength of the entire athletic programs. Then they consider how their sport fits into the entire athletic program.
I have seen players remove a school they have an offer from because the school doesnât have football or MBB because those 2 are the primary bread winners. The money has to trickle down though the departments.
Iâve also seen athletes consider schools because the entire programs success beyond their individual sports success. They want to be part of winning programs.
That logic also seems somewhat flawed for football. At the P4 level, sure the teams bring in a ton of money that gets circulated around the AD, but at the G5 level, thatâs more school/conference dependent.
