Hey hey! So, does Miami get the 3 points or the 1?
So how would the NPI view this? Tie or win?

OT win slightly less than a regular win but more than a tie

Home/Road weighting: For purposes of calculating a final NPI, games are weighted based upon whether they are home or road games. Road wins and home losses are weighted by a factor of 1.2, while home wins and road losses are weighted by 0.8. For postseason conference tournament games, there is no weighting. Also, there is no weighting to the OT portion of a game, if it’s 3x3 OT.
OT weighting: As of 2021-22, when college hockey went to 3-on-3 overtimes across the board, The Committee decided to weight these differently. As of 2025-26, OT wins are counted as 0.6 of a win, and 0.4 of a loss. A game that goes to 3x3 OT, only has the home/road weighting applied to the regulation portion. For example, an OT win by the home team is not worth 0.6 x 0.8 … but rather (0.4 x 0.8) + 0.2.
Good luck trying to fully parse that, but essentially it’s positive but significantly less than a regulation win I think.

GREAT experience! Huge win over the reigning national champion #4 ranked team over a sellout crowd!! Team was absolutely fired up at the end. Hay came out in a boot on one foot and skate on the other to celebrate with his teammates
lots of dancing, hyping up the crowd and cheering.
Let’s do it again tomorrow!
