2026 Transfer Portal (MIAMI NEWS ONLY)

Thought i heard it was ACL and meniscus. I am just going on distant memory here.

Per AI doctor:

Key Differences: ACL vs ACL + Meniscus

1) Recovery Timeline

  • ACL only (reconstruction):
~6–9 months to return to sport (sometimes 9–12 for high-level athletes)

  • ACL + meniscus repair (not removal):
    ~9–12+ months
→ slower rehab because the meniscus must biologically heal

  • ACL + meniscectomy (trimmed):
timeline closer to ACL alone, but with worse long-term consequences

Bottom line: Meniscus involvement often adds 2–4+ months (or more depending on severity and repair type)

2) Rehab Complexity

  • ACL rehab focuses on:

    • strength

    • neuromuscular control

    • stability

  • Adding meniscus repair requires:

    • restricted weight-bearing early

    • limited knee flexion initially

    • slower progression protocols

This reduces early mobility and delays strength rebuilding.

3) Performance Risk Post-Return

  • ACL only: many athletes return near baseline (though not all)

  • ACL + meniscus:

    • higher risk of lingering stiffness

    • higher risk of re-injury

    • slightly lower return-to-peak rates (especially in cutting sports)

4) Long-Term Joint Health (Biggest Difference)

This is where the gap becomes significant.

  • ACL only: increased arthritis risk over time

  • ACL + meniscus damage:

    • substantially higher risk of osteoarthritis

    • earlier cartilage wear

    • possible chronic swelling/pain

Reason: the meniscus is critical for load distribution—losing or damaging it increases joint stress dramatically.

One reason that the big get bigger, is that the alumni of major conference schools knew they were going to large enrollments when they enrolled. It’s like a filter. High school seniors don’t choose Miami to go be semi professional fans like you see at Ohio State Clemson, Florida State, Georgia. You name it. So the social currency after the fact is being a giant contributor at the top of the sports social mountain of those schools. And for Miami, it’s a combination of students that didn’t go there with this on their mind in the first place and then being near the top of the contribution mountain at a mid major school is just not the same overall. Believe me I’m not discouraging any of our most well off alumni not to go all in. I’m just saying there’s a DNA about the difference.

Very quiet on the Miami front so far.

well the portal doesn’t open up until after the national title game so there’s not going to be much news until then. and steele is under contract already…

Plenty of players nationally have announced an intention to enter. But, I agree that no public announcements yet doesn’t necessarily equal nothing happening at all. If anything, I take the current silence as players giving Miami is a first bite at the apple, which would be consistent with what we’ve heard about the larger team culture.

I had a dream that Elmer went to Michigan St. That was gross.

Pretty sure that was Eugene Seals.

Lol. Elmer is staying. I’ve not been posting in this thread as to not incite fear. Maybe we should have a separate thread with only actual Miami Portal information and a thread with completely speculative information.

That’s what I was trying for!!!

Eh, that new thread would just get corrupted, too. It’s the MHT way.

A for effort though, Sack.

She loved talking about “Fookie.” And “Fookie” loved talking about his mother.

=>Fookie news is exactly what @The_Sackman wanted from this thread.

I did it for the Fookie but I was in college and needed the money.

=>What Elmer said last year. Hope he still feels that way.

‘I wouldn’t take money over culture.’ Taft alum Eian Elmer ‘hungry’ for more with RedHawks

Elmer this year:

The timing of Kirby announcing he is coming back and Byers’s agent announcing that he is going portal are obviously related. One is happy with his bag from Miami, the other isn’t. The remaining dominos will start falling fast.

This is no surprise. I figured Brant would enter.

Brant was among the missing from the group vacation photos I saw. I was hoping I wasn’t reading too much into that.
