Stan Heath was at Kent State for 1 season with the previous coaches players. That team was so loaded, it would’ve taken an idiot to not make it to the final four.
Well, they “only” made the Elite Eight, so…
Big Win for UD last night! For those thinking that job is gonna open up and Steele will take it
Saw that!
P.S. what about the UC HC? On the hot seat or not??
Remember, Jermaine Henderson is on that staff at UD and he and the other coaches looked upset and frustrated after losing so many games in a couple weeks. Anthony Grant and his staff will have things worked out.
I’m calling it now, Flyers upset St Louis next week at UD
Wes Miller’s gone. I honestly thought he’d be a great hire for them. He build UNC Greensboro from nothing and had them in the NIT semis. Roy Williams told UNC if he had a say so in the replacement of him, he’d bring in Wes Miller because he had built more from less at UNCG.
UC’s a mess and any local coach would be crazy to take the job.
And UC is in way over their heads in hoops and football in Big 12. Money is great, but they can’t compete with the type of teams in the top half of that league consistently. No chance. UC should have stayed as the big fish in a small pond.
Really? Man I would love to be in the Big 12. UC has probably done better than I thought they would so far.
In hoops they are 20-31 in Big 12 play for the three years they’ve been in. Good for 11th, 12th and now 9th place and likely firing HC.
Football 9-18 in Big 12 play; last place, 11th, 7th
Football was bad the first year but they were ranked some of last year - had 40k crowds and this year made the Liberty Bowl. They play on national tv all the time (and not mid week)
Basketball made the NIT and the Crown the first two years. We went 25–9 and got nothing
I am worried about losing our coach to UC.
UC doesn’t worry me. I can’t fathom a universe where they hire a coach that Xavier fired. And based on the vibes from their message board, Steele is not who they’re hot to trot for.
UC wants Jerrod Calhoun. Huggins disciple. Graduated from UC. From Ohio. If they can get him that will be their first choice.
The job that worries me is Butler. Aside from Steele’s ties to the school and state, it’s kind of drivable from Cincinnati which we know is an important factor.
Not sure if this is relevant, but I heard Steele mention in a press conference that he and his wife are still in the process of building their home. Could that keep him in the area. Who the hell knows.
I’ve been pretty clear about this but people aren’t listening well with their eyes.
In theory, yes. It certainly can’t hurt. But then again, they can easily finish building that, while also starting to build another mansion somewhere else with what is essentially (at least from their perspectives) loose change that they find between the couch cushions.
Maybe Mick Cronin will be available for UC in a few weeks.
WEEKS???
Yep. Look at the hype of the program for attracting new students and donations for the new arena. If Steele gets lured to another school, what does Miami say to those who feel like this was a bait & switch?
If Travis stays, hoping all the returning players stay also! He keeps emphasizing the closeness of the players.
The “one of the highest paid” bit seems strange or a bit cheap at first, but remember Frank makes over 2.1m/yr at UMass.
We aren’t matching that. I’d think he would be the highest paid outside that or at least equivalent to Gross
He should make more than Chuck.
