The fact is with all the consternation over
Travis leaving I never thought there were many openings that would appeal to Travis and his family this cycle. Not to say he couldn’t still leave.
But with UC and now reportedly Butler filled, my guess (and hope) is Miami will announce his return soon. Probably finalizing some contract details and other housekeeping like recruiting his own roster so he knows exactly who is returning.
2 of the biggest jobs in MBB now open in UNC and Self retiring from Kansas.
again, as of 10AM ET Bill Self has not retired, and any reporting is just rumor and speculation
The X post about Self is one of those fake news “parody” accounts for clicks. Not a real guy. Self may still retire, its up in there air, but that report isn’t real. I’ve had that guy blocked for months as he does it regularly.
It would be very selfish of him not to announce the news his own self.
Fair enough and doesn’t change my comment immediately above about Steele. Much as I like Travis it is doubtful UNC or if the Self rumor
Is true, Kansas, are going to come calling. Now might those two jobs open others and cause a domino effect perhaps.
One other point on my Steele comment immediately above, also discussions ongoing with his staff as to who is staying and Steele negotiating more money for said staff.
Steele probably should look around before deciding if he wants to make Miami a long-term home, and there’s not much to be gained by daily speculation on “will he or won’t he.” If I were David Sayler, my task right now would be to consider whether Holmes is ready to promote if Steele gets a P4 job or if Miami would need to do its own search.
Steele speaks very highly of Holmes and clearly is setting him up for a HC opportunity somewhere. From the outside looking in, it seems like a continuity hire could make sense for Miami. But someone closer to the program needs to assess whether he’s got the leadership (and, these days, fundraising) skills to keep Miami on its current hard-earned trajectory.
Sounds like Will Wade is going back to LSU
Butler did not pursue Miami’s Travis Steele during its head coaching search, source tells @WLWT

Somewhat surprising that Travis didn’t even seem to get an interview.
A good guess would be hiring someone who had experience in their conference, but who did not have ‘success’ was a no-go, right or wrong.
Or he could be selfless and just leave without fanfare.
Or the search firm was told no so the school itself didn’t pursue him.
Which is weird. I know Nored was part of the teams that went to back-to-back title games and he’s Butler royalty. But he’s also never been a head coach in college. Meanwhile, you have a Butler grad who has proven he can rebuild a program, built one of the most potent offenses in the country, and just coached a D1 team to an undefeated regular season while ending his program’s March Madness drought.
Don’t get me wrong, I’m selfishly glad Butler didn’t want Travis to head back there. But it’s bizarre that he wouldn’t have garnered more attention from his alma mater.
I had to look this up for myself
Will Wade is just boring basketball Lane kiffin at this point
=>Steele mentioned. Just speculation on potentials.
