Eric Mahaffey of Akron to the portal.
No idea what level he ends up at, but heâd be a nice piece to add.
Could just follow Groce, but maybe he wants to stay close to home.
Or maybe UC, X or Dayton come calling.
I have one idea
=>I would be shocked.
Hereâs his post
Just for reference on where basketball is at these days:

SLU, as an A10 program, have said they are going to be coming in at $10m.
Really wonder where this leaves MAC programs who even at the highest estimates were in the 1-2m range last year at UMass and Akron.

Pete Nakos spoke with sources across college basketball to identify the programs ready to spend the most when the portal opens. Several schools are positioned to clear $10 million, including some that are expected to push toward $13 to $15 million as coaches lobby for more resources and begin aggressive portal campaigns. At least one high-major assistant told Nakos the environment is already frantic: âSchools are calling playersâ agents 10 days into the season because people are looking at box scores. Next week is going to be wilder and crazier than ever before.â
A second tier of programs is expected to land in the $8 to $10 million range, with the flexibility to push higher if the right players become available.
Maybe this has already been posted. Logan Duncomb, 6â10 C from Winthrop enters the portal again. Moeller, Miami offer, two years at IU.
Pretty impressive jump from him. Played 8 mins a game last year at Winthrop - then averaged 18 pts 9 rebs for them this year.
He played 2 years at IU, took a medical redshirt at Xavier, and has played two years at Winthrop. How does he have any eligibility left?
The projected estimate cost of doing business:
Top 15 Projected NIL + Roster Spending for 2026-27 College Basketball
- Kentucky (SEC) â $21Mâ$23M
- BYU (Big 12) â $15M
- Duke (ACC) â $14M
- Arkansas (SEC) â $12.5M
- Indiana (Big Ten) â $12M
- Louisville (ACC) â $11.5Mâ$12M
- Texas Tech (Big 12) â $11.5M
- St. Johnâs (Big East) â $11.5M
- Michigan (Big Ten) â $11.5M
- Kansas (Big 12) â $9.5Mâ$10M
- Tennessee (SEC) â $9.5M
- Providence (Big East) â $10M+ (explicitly targeting big portal spend under new HC Bryan Hodgson)
- Arizona (Big 12) â $9.5M
- North Carolina (ACC) â ~$9Mâ$10M (consistent top-tier spender)
- UCLA (Big Ten) â $8Mâ$9.5M (Cronin pushing for more; USC similar range in Big Ten)
I saw this on Twitter as well, it is not accurate. For example, Xavier and UC will both be north of 12+Mil.
The problem with Xavier and their however many million is theyâre still going to have Richard Pitino coaching them in the Big East. What a fantastic waste of money thatâll be!
Haha I agree, but Rick Broering said yesterday on their musketeer report forum âI feel comfortable saying the original 10M figure, even before a 1M match addition now looks conservativeâ
