ā€œArguably the best pure scorer in the Cleveland area, Luke Skaljac showed why he’s going to be able to help Miami (OH) at the D-1 level against perennial power Lakewood St. Edward’. The lefty is outstanding at creating separation for his shot, utilizing his off arm exceptionally well and throwing defenders off with his extreme change of pace. Skaljac’s ability to make tough shots and create for himself/others should allow him to contribute in the MAC next year.ā€

The team was really missing a go to scorer who could consistently get their own bucket when the team needed it. He’s one of the two or three that I think have the potential to fill that gap soon.

Curious who you think the others could be.

I think Elmer could get there with a big offseason learning to play more off the dribble. Maybe Ipsaro, but I think his mindset is a PG. maybe Potter? I think he’s another year away from being a true go-to scorer.

I think a transfer who can really score it is probably a big priority this offseason.

It’s gotta be Skywalker. It’s preordained in the stars. Young sharp shooting Jedi travels to the 513 to lead ragtag rebel base of victory seeking fans over the dark lord that is Toledo and or Akron. I’m excited to see him in action.

I’ll be interested to see how the minutes are divided among the guards. Certainly no shortage of them on the roster, assuming all are back. My real concern with Luke is the same with a lot of the team - do they have the size and strength to play a successful D1 schedule?
I’m really hoping the guys yet to be added do.

I posted a month ago that we needed to add physicality and guys who can take it to the hole and finish. When you add the two recruits to what we already have I think it is obvious we are out of balance with shooters and need guys who can rebound and drive effectively.

Stupid thought coming but purely out of ignorance so please indulge me:

How do we know these guys are done growing? Ie, when you land a senior it’s a year till they enroll. Do some of these guys grow enough to change positions? I have an 8 year old so I’m no expert here. Thoughts appreciated!

From what I’ve heard and seen, you’re way off. Really off on the assumptions of both signees.

So you are thinking the two guys already signed are physical players? I would have described them as thin, skilled and good shooters and Luke is an excellent passer/ball handler. Are you saying that is not accurate?

Dick is correct-both of our signees will need to get much stronger for D 1 BB. I am still all in with Steele but he needs to bring in atr least two strong post dawgs who can rebound and score ( the lsst time I checked we were last in the MAC in rebounding). We need size and stength to go with our inconsistent 3 pt shooting team. We need to recruit the portal much better - two more ^6-5 small forwards is not going to get it done. BTW Coach Steele if you or your staff read any of these posts please devote at least 10 minutes each
prctice to " glass practice
" ( esp for Dean )- per an old coach friend properly using the glass is worth 4/6 pts more a game. Offensive rebounding player placement per the same " old " coach also worth 6+ pts a game…Our player placement and effort on both O and D rebounding very poor. Futher the same old school coach required his players to follow their shots intead of just standing or backing up to see if they their 25/ 33 %
chance of sucess shot went in. Especially when a 3 point shooter simply stands and wathes his shot his team is down automaically a man .Finally while I am venting our BB team and HC need to control their emotions and be more mentally tough- tech fouls including three last game totally unacceptable- again per my old coach 50 burbies the next practice for any player or coach that gets a T- Beat Akron.

What about any of this means they don’t drive or aren’t physical? Will they need to spend time lifting? Sure. But acting like that isn’t part of their game is completely inaccurate.

I’ve yet to see a MAC freshman that didn’t need to lift. As for the rest of the post, what a weird thread to have that rant.
